Social Stigma for using names with Alt Codes?

What are alt-codes? They sound great.

I mean, using them because a name you used for years was taken isn’t as bad as pretentious people looking down people and playing their little blacklist game, created out of laziness. I personally would rather associate with an “alt code” user than someone being an elitist making an issue over something that doesn’t really matter… Because right clicking is easy.

That a thing? I seriously had no idea.

Listen very cloely. If you are a roge that doesnt have a name, that makes people eyez bleed, you are doing something wrong :male_detective::dagger:

Having to look up the alt code(s) in order to invite that player unless they whisper or chat first is the first stigma that comes to my mind.

And that someone else got the original name so it kind of looks like someone is a carbon copy.

Considering I would have to type out the name to invite I have 0 intention of inviting people with alt codes that I don’t already know how to type out.

I pass no judgment…just don’t ask me to send you any tells or invite you to anything because I’m not about trying to type that mess.

Still seeing them in retail to this day. If blizzard banned alt codes entirely they would block the game from registering them.

If you use them please put the alt code letters near the end of the word.

And use them sparingly

If you are a tank, make sure you say something in chat, macros don’t write themselves

For me this is how my name is spelled with the alt e … but I do get how it can be a pain …

Ive been in guilds that required a name have no alt codes in it. It just makes it easier

I never use them in my names.

I pretty much assume anyone with alt characters is going to do things they risk getting reported for, and is hoping to avoid getting reported.

Alt code names were banned in 2011. Some of the alt code named characters that existed prior to the ban in 2011 may still be around which is why you see them.

I just checked in Retail. You cannot include a non letter in a name. They are still banned. They may be allowing them in Classic. I hope not.

O really. Because I have several

This one too

I can do this all day…

You created this toon before 2011 as your achievements show.

No stigma honestly, for me at least.

When I think back, it was more common for players to use ascii code characters because it was just cooler. Especially the “o” with a / through it. I grew with it—it’s second nature to deal with inviting them to a group for example.

And the allied race character?

There not banned. Get over it. Do I need to make a level 1 character and post?

I was surprised while playing on a private server that the 1.12 WoW client doesn’t even have “right click -> ignore” for whisper spam. Only way I found was to manually add usernames to the ignore list.

Now I’m doubly surprised that WoW usernames aren’t just limited to a few dozen ascii chars.

People used them in test.

A non letter refers to a number, or an asterisk, or even an apostrophe. (Even though NPC’s can have them.)
