Social Stigma for using names with Alt Codes?

Just curious if you guys think having alt codes in your name would be bad mojo. I’m surprised we can use them tbh.

What do you guys think?

I’ll look down on anyone who needs them to get their version of legolas.

They were banned years ago. Is Blizzard letting them back into Classic?

It’s just annoying trying to invite someone to groups or guilds unless they message you.

My issue with alt codes is that if you’re trying to invite them or take some other action and they are not clickable, it’s very hard to figure out how exactly to spell the name.

its just super annoying to invite, whisper, or contact them in any way shape or form… Generally, i dont care to even attempt to talk to invite them if they have alt codes

You will actively reduce the number of people who can/will invite you to things as messaging you and inviting you can be difficult without knowing the character.

If you’re not playing with people who use the character in normal daily typing, yh are best to avoid it.

Oh, you wacky millennial. They were not allowed back in early/mid Classic (not sure if they relaxed the rule later). You would be forced to name change if someone reported you.

OK I thought you meant special characters. What are alt codes?

But it wouldnt be an authentic vanilla experience without at least one xxlegolaxss

I was referring to special characters. And they are active…

Special character = alt code characters.

Hell, I remember back in ‘t3h day’ I made a character named ‘Leetspeak,’ and within five minutes walking around the starting area, a GM contacted me and forced a name change.

When people use them, I only communicate with them if I really have to, like they end up in my guild or something.

No they are not. There are some very old character names but unless Blizzard screwed up in BfA (which wouldn’t surprise me) there are no new toons with special characters in names.

Sorry, I meant Alt codes from the character map.

Don’t really have a problem with them. Plenty of people used them back in the day. However i don’t go out of my way to try and spell their name, they can message me if they need something.
