Sober or Drunk? How do you play?

I see so many people mentioning drinking etc when playing wow, that I have to guess that its more likely than not, more players are drinking/drunk than sober in game.

I’ve been on the wagon for about 22 years now, with one major binge that lasted a day, and a couple years I had half a glass of champagne on new years, and did not like the feeling I got when I drank that, so not drinking anymore actually isn’t that hard, definitely not like it was when I first stopped.

Maybe that is why I seem to always see these posts about drinking and playing WoW, who knows.

I have to wonder though, how in the heck can ya all afford to get drunk all the time these days?

there is no way in heck I could afford to drink like I did back in the day. Unless I drank beer but couldn’t stand beer. I could get drunk off a couple beers, a couple bottles of wine, or a couple fifths of hard liquor, and sometimes not even then on the hard liquor depending on what I was drinking. Half the time I raised the money to drink by betting people I could out drink them on hard liquor lol, it doesn’t affect me like the others for whatever reason. I did that mess darn near every night for many years.

I’ve been living in a house with multiple rooms for rent, been here about six years so pretty much its more home than anywhere else has been over my life time. We don’t have a huge turnover in people here, fortunately, but we seem to have gotten a crowd of young drinkers in this batch now, drives me nuts. They drink all the darn time, its 4 am now, music is blaring full speed and everyone here but me is drunk as a skunk.

I don’t know how they can afford it to be honest. I did find out yesterday that the person who runs the house and has been in with the young crowd on the drinking, owes 1200 on the electricity bill and has till Tuesday to pay $425 or its cut off time. I found out yesterday because she asked me for the money to pay it. When asked how she was gonna pay me back, she had no answer, cause there is no way she could. She is currently out there drunk as a skunk again, so she can apparently afford the booze.

So partly venting, I’m not paying the bill btw, I will however call the real landlord if she doesn’t have the money however she gets it by Monday, and when I do that, all heck will bust loose here. But more so I’m curious…

how do you all afford it, and has the game and drinking every put you in a spot like owing the electric company $1200? I know the post isn’t exactly WoW related, but it is in a general off topic kind of way lol.

And just to be clear, not judging anyone, I really am curious. I’ve seen the booze bills around here. It isn’t cheap.

BFA is hard to play sober, I used to pretty much exclusively play drunk until I quit drinking at the start of the year.

As for the cost, that’s one of the reasons I stopped, $150 a week on alcohol and when you realized how much you’ve wasted in a year it sucks.

naw, drink is a super garbage drug, it’s like starving yourself and intentional insomnia, it just deadens you and results in lengthy recover periods and tanked moods.

i spent the couple years leading up to this moment getting completely out of the self inflicted poisoning and moved on to really Cognitive supplements and ultra-foods to give my brain some boosts to recover from the Train Wreck that is alcohol consumption.

Without doing that I wouldn’t be here to experience this new incredible journey’s beginning

i drink, and I don’t stand on any holier than tho bs either. cats cute in this thread

Drinking effects your esophagus and throat, something no one with reflux should touch. If you have a lump Sensation like something is stuck in your throat, then you most likely have silent reflux and it’s nothing to play around with.

if I can quit drinking after the childhood I had, everyone can.
once you hit middle-age, a picture can really start to form regarding your own mortality if you don’t start taking care of yourself.

the massive advantage of exercising regularly is that you feel good about yourself, as opposed to living a sedentary life and pouring bad stuff into your body to ‘give you energy’.
you’re setting yourself up for an unhappy end if you do that.

you are wrong thinking everyone needs to quit cause you had to

Yeah, the cost is horrendous. I can remember 22 plus years ago it was costing me easily $75 to 100 a week just to keep myself drunk…and I didn’t drink to enjoy it, I drank to get drunk and pass out. Life was not pleasant then. It’s how I dealt with it.

Seeing that cost over the course of a year though, is a eye opener for sure. I quit drugs, quit drinking, both cold turkey, both with reasons that scared me straight more than want at the time, but I can’t shake cigarettes to save my life…guess one vice out of 3 ain’t bad, shame its probably the worst one.

I have an addictive personality, so I religiously avoid drugs, alcohol, and other behaviors that prey on those same impulses.

I already have so many emotionally destructive coping mechanisms, I can’t afford to develop a physically destructive one too.

people don’t need to quit because I had to, they need to quit because alcohol can lead to cancer.
that’s what i’m talking about when I say people are “setting yourself up for an unhappy end if you do that”.

come on guys, I did not post this to start a flame war on drinking, I posted it because I’m curious on how people can afford it. Not to judge, not to convince anyone its good or bad, none of that is anyone’s business.

Play nice.

ease ur concern, this isn’t a flame war, its more or less just us bsin back and forth about important aspects of our life.

I don’t think less of ppl that don’t or quit and I don’t think more of self for drinking. so hard to have a flame war in this situation

well that’s good news!
now I can revert to eating bad fats, more sugar, more salt and drinking alcohol because i’m in danger all the time.

honestly, if this is your defence for drinking, you’re really in denial.

i’ll also try not to breathe too much during my 45 minute run tomorrow, which I can’t wait for by the way.

seems a bit extreme. I don’t consume lots of sugar or salt and barely any bad fats outside a burger here or there.

fair call.
i’m stepping away from it right now.

you’re quite right.

im only defending it against you.

I’m stopping the drinking and smoking until I hit 60. I don’t need hangovers or nicotine headaches while I level.

But I am replacing them with energy drinks though
