I started off really not liking the race, I found the Evoker gameplay to be pretty satisfying but the transmog restrictions and especially the fact that you had to use a dragon to fly annoyed the hell out of me. Using Soar is fun as hell, I’ve never been much of a mount guy, my favorite mounts were usually the “non-living” ones, like the Archmage disc, so my own character being able to fly on his own is pretty neat.
So now that you can dragon fly even in the old world, I’ve been really contemplating maining my Dracthyr again, I’ve been catching up on the Campaigns chapters I missed on him. Hopefully in near future they fix the transmog rules for Dracthyr somehow, because the customization options ones they have right now do get old quite fast.

As a mechagnome hoping for that for years now, I wouldn’t hold your breath. But I wish you luck in having your request fulfilled.

Yeah… These things are usually at the bottom of the barrel of Blizzard’s priorities, unfortunately. I do hope they one day take a look at the races with weird transmog rules, things do feel a bit shallow when the visual progression is kinda lacking.

I would be happy if along with TWW going live, many races got 15+ options added to their looks.
I don’t mean skin/eye/hair colors, I mean new hair styles, facial scars, facial tattoos, horns, tails, etc.

Dracs need static flying too

Honestly, I agree, while I prefer dynamic flight, it would be nice to be able to “mount up” in dungeons.

Yeah I agree.
I still don’t like Evokers but having flying as a racial perk almost makes me want to race change my main to a Dracthyr if/when they’re ever opened to other classes.

It wasn’t enough to keep me playing as a winged gecko buff bot…

Soar doesn’t work the same as dragon riding, don’t let blizzard off the hook so easily. It is still inferior to dragon riding in several ways.
- If you have a partially filled vigor orb when you hit soar, it will empty back to 0 for some reason. This doesn’t happen to any orbs that are 100% filled
- When you land you immediately “dismount” meaning you cannot use soar to mine or herb as effectively as when you are on a mount because of the CD and the fact that you often enter combat when you land and can’t fly again until exiting combat.
- Dragon riding mounts increase your ground speed by 100%, soar does not.
Sure soar is an analogue for dragon riding while actively in the air, but is inferior in almost every possible way to a traditional mount other than that.

I hope they are able to wear armour one day, but I’d rather have them without armour than not have them.

I didn’t even bother to play mine until they got regular flying. Playing the gimped version was too unfun.

We might be talking about different things, but if you’re talking about the fact that only some pieces of armor show up on their normal form, yeah, I think it’s a really odd design decision, I can’t help but feel like they were halfway throughout making transmog compatible for Dracthyr but they ran out of time and left it half baked.
It’s just so damn odd that only shoulders, 3D belts and tabards show, and to make it worse it looks absolutely horrible alongside their customization armor.
Started playing one again recently and soar is pretty lit.
Yeah, I’m really glad they added that back into the game after it vanished from the DF launch PTR. I just need to remember to use it.
I’m so used to just hopping on a dragon.

yeah but dracthyr are more popular then mechagnomes.
It wasn’t until dracthyr that worgen got a chosen form out of combat
What?
Who uses soar to travel on the ground?

Their point was that it doesn’t work like a mount for the ground the same way dragonriding mounts work.
For me, that’s a non-issue. But some of the other points are valid. Especially getting kicked out of Soar if you even lightly graze something for less than a millisecond. There have been many times I’ve nicked the top of a ledge and gotten tossed across the zone. You also get kicked out of Soar if you don’t get out from under bridges or cave overhangs quite enough. Hit the top of something, you’re slammed back down onto the ground with a cooldown.
I think it would have been better to remove the takeoff animation entirely. But that’s just me.
The entire point of my post is a brief list of things that you can do on a dragon riding mount that you cannot do with soar. The list is not comprehensive, it was just a couple of examples.
To be honest, soar the way it works right now is still a gimmick and actually has less functionality than it did prior to the change.
Before the change if you somehow managed to run out of vigor (which admittedly was very infrequently if you know how to dragon ride well) you could use soar in a pinch to fly a bit while your vigor regenerated or even use it to regenerate vigor quickly since thrill of the skies would still regenerate your vigor while soaring.
The fact that you can’t do this anymore coupled with the fact that soar is actually just dragonriding but worse (as per my previous post), I honestly see the soar changes as a net negative since they functionally added nothing and took away a bonus that soar had.
If blizzard ever actually makes soar exactly the same as dragon riding, then I will see that as a win, but what we currently have ain’t it.
I personally dont regard the ability to regain vigor while using Soar as nothing
Im not saying that the new version of Soar is the bees knees and hands down the best thing added to WoW since 2005.
But itʻs a very cool and special addition to the Drakthyr race, even Demon Hunters, who have wanted to fly under their own power for the last 3 expansions, donʻt get anything like it.
I enjoy using it on my Dracthyr.
