Soar feedback (megathread)

Come here to give your feedback on Soar. I am sure there is a beta version but now that they’re live there should be a live version.

My feedback: Soar cooldown should be reduced to 1 minute and 0 minutes in “friendly skies”.

Also, I heard it can’t be upgraded and benefit from dragon riding upgrades. If this is the case allow it to benefit from all dragon riding benefits at least while on the dragon isles (though dragon riding should be available outside of the dragon isles). So dragons don’t have to ride dragons to fly.

A fully upgraded Soar on the Dragon Isles is as fast as dragonriding, and has a cooldown of 1-2 minutes. It still only has one charge of Ascent and one charge of Surge though. It means you launch in the air, use your two skills, glide to the ground, wait a minute, and then hop in their air again. Compared the base drake it’s tedious, which sucks because flying as your Dracthyr is fun.

Soar in the old world is nerfed speed and a cooldown of 3-4 minutes.

Honestly, my suggestion would have been…

*Soar: Acts as a dragonriding mount in any areas with dragonriding enabled. Would share the same vigor pool, cooldowns, and talents as dragonriding proper. Barring that, I would be happy if the cooldown started on use and there was some way to regen your abilities in flight. Or choose which you wanted to use. You know, have three charges of your skills, but you could spend them on any combination of Ascent or Surge.

*Flying Wild: A normal mount ability with a cast time and dismount when normal mounts would dismount. Would launch the Dracthyr up in the air into a hover and would allow them to travel along the ground at mount speed in areas without flight, or fly in the area in areas with flight. Same as any other flying mount in game, but with a Dracthyr skin.

The Dracthyr in the Evoker trailer actually does that. I think it is meant to look like Hover, but it is not that. It has a cast time from Soar, and then it launches them into a Dracthyr flying idle far higher than Hover normally would. Dracthyr actually have full flying mount animations, they are just not available to players.

Either way, only having what essentially amounts to a flying sprint or hop as your only way to fly as yourself kinda sucks. Being stuck on a flying mount while thinking that you would much rather be doing this with your character’s own wings is unfun. They didn’t tell Druids that they could only be in Travel/Flight for a limited amount of time before they were forced out of it before waiting for a cooldown to travel more, nor did they do the same with Worgen’s Running Wild, but they did with Dracthyr and Soar (and didn’t even bother giving us normal flight). It kinda sucks. :frowning:

It will be able to benefit from most (if not all) of the dragon riding upgrades, some of which will end up reducing the CD while in the Dragon Isles to 1 min. That being said, I still feel like 1 minute CD in all places would be more than enough.

EDIT: As Nyraevyn said, something else that should be done is allow them to fly as a mount, just like Worgen can (though of course, in the dracthyrs’ case, it would be a flying mount).

Oh, I can post as a Dracthyr now. Just responding to this post since Nyraevyn was my main before. This my new character. Being transparent about posting from this one now in the thread rather than looking like I am trying to pad it with alts.

Yay from starting again from scratch!

It’s okay so far.

It doesn’t seem like an improvement over GW2’s griffon riding and we aren’t getting the other mount types, yet.

SWTOR has space dog fighting, would be nice if Soar/Dragonriding could have some sort of PvP mode like SWTOR.

It just feels very bare as a feature compared to other games.

i agree with all of your ideas. pretty sure it was your posts i was reading on the beta forum for awhile

bottom line for me, is that the race just doesn’t feel good if it can’t fly on its own. i likened it to giving druids a flight form, but making them ride around on a flying mount in their bird form because they can’t use their wings. just a really mindless decision

I think it should be full dragon riding and un restricted everywhere. Dragon riding is just better than old-school flying.

Aye, prolly. I am pretty vocal. Pretty sure the devs have me on a “oh gods, not her again” list.

I saw you put in your fair share too, though.

Dragonriding is an improvement, Soar is not. Since you mentioned GW2, think of it like this. Dragonriding is like the Griffon, but they gave it the ability to actually climb with its energy rather than just maintain height. Soar is like the Griffon, but you can only use your skills three time and then your energy no longer recharges til you stop and land somewhere for a few minutes.

I posted this sonewhere else then noticed there is a thread for it here…
They should set soar to 1 min cd. So when youre on a fully explored land there is no cd. Even then druid insta flight is better so far, so why not give evoker a bit of Bazinga!

Nyraevyn. I mentioned up there too, but things get lost in threads.

Soar should get reduced CD when you kill things in the isles, and be like, one minute in old zones.

It could def use some improvements.

It should simply be replaced with dragonriding wholesale. Make Soar a racial mount for Dracthyr, grant it access to any and all dragonriding talents, and make dragonriding available everywhere for everyone.

That would be the intelligence choice that any multi-billion dollar company should make for their mega-million dollar revenue generating game… but, small indie company and all.

Their gobbledygook rationale behind the Soar limitations remains absolutely mind-blowing.
