Soar: Familiar Skies should be reworked

while it’s not ‘useless,’ i think the issue here is that it really doesn’t need to exist in its current form. If Soar is balanced around a 3-minute cooldown, why even bother with the “4 minute CD, minus 1 after jumping through hoops” deal?

OP’s suggestion kills two birds with one stone by making Familiar Skies do something useful, and allows Drakthyr to actually use Soar as a cosmetic Dragonriding in content where dragonriding is enabled (just like Running Wild for worgen and ground mounts, and Flight Form for druids and flying mounts).

I can see where that is coming from, but all races tend to have one major racial, an on use, and then 1 or 2 flavor ones (granted allied races seem to have one extra). Familiar Skies feels inline with - and better than - those +10 to profession racials.

That is fair, but at the same time, Evokers and Drakthyr are (currently) inseparable. Any racial is the same as a class ability. Heck, there are talents for the Drakthyr’s other racials in their class tree. If Soar was under the ‘class’ tab instead of the ‘general’ tab in the spellbook, would that change your mind?

Soar being a racial is kind of arbitrary-- at least until Blizzard decides if/when to allow Drakthyr to be other classes.

edit: sorry, just realized that i’m arguing one point when you’re arguing another. Yes “Familiar skies” is something completely different than the other ‘passive’ racials most races get, but I feel like changing it to OP’s suggestion is more of ‘fixing something that should already be’ as opposed to ‘giving Drakthyr yet another racial.’ It would be more a placeholder to hold extra text so Soar’s tooltip wasn’t 3 chapters long.

It wouldn’t change my mind, as I firmly believe Soar shouldn’t have a CD to begin with. Making it 1:1 with Dragon Riding would be counter to pushing for removing the CD as it would give Dracthyr an instant-cap to a system every other race will be working towards.

Blizzard did say they would be adding more classes to Dracthyr, but not in DF. So that really put the door stop on my wanting to play one. I just believe being a lil green dragon who breathes green mist and summons Yu’lon to be superior to any Evoker fantasy. :dragon:

I must admit i’m curious what a Drakthyr druid would look like. Druids have been my main in all expansions but one (made a monk in MoP and yeah, i agree mistweavers are pretty fun). I am looking forward to Evokers though. I’m a sucker for mobile classes, and Evokers seem to have a lot of it… Just nervous about their 25yd range on everything. hopefully it’s manageable.

Dracthyr druid should be one of the classes on the docket, imho. Especially with Ysera being a central figure and all.

I have played a hell of a lot of Fistweaver and Holy Paladin, and that short range is a lot more flexible than you’d imagine. If people really want to be so out of range that they cannot be healed, then they will learn the hard way that ranged dps are lowest priority on the to-heal list.

And hear me ol’ healer bones are going ‘healsonwheels-healsonwheels-healsonwheels’ lol

Yes! I absolutely would love to do a Dracthyr MW now that you brought that up! They would be so mobile, and thematically I love the idea!
