At this point I am just so, so fed up that we got useless DH wings that vanish after seeing Asmongold soaring over Stormwind.
DH flight was the most requested thing and the devs just gave it to a newly created race. I am a DH main since their creation and a fan of the their archetype since warcraft 3 and I am so entoxicated, enraged and offended by the fact we can not glide with momentum.
Blizzard had to scrap an entire warlock spec to give birth to your class, if all you have to give up is your dream of DH flight, consider it a good deal. Also, they already got all the $$$ they are going to get from implementing DH, Evoker is now the drip and will be given abilities as such.
it is very unreasonable to compare that. First, the dh archetype was well established and it was only a matter of time that they came. The Meta spell never really “belonged” to the ranged spell caster warlock. They fired the dev responsible for that and undid all his crazy ideas about warlocks. This is the reality and after like 10 years you should cope with the loss of something you should never had in the first place.
At this point I want to point out that druids also should be able to use the momentum driven flight system in their flight forms.
Also another thing: Dracthyr got the DHs normal glide ability as well so I don’t see a reason why we should not be able to use our wings to “soar” around.
We’re still mostly elves, which in this game don’t have flight as a characteristic. This would be the only reason that makes sense. That it doesn’t fit the narrative.
Now, as for how they mechanic these things, our current mechanic doesn’t actually make sense as our wings never tire or give out after a while and produce too much lift for how much we would weigh.
That to me indicates that as they sprout by magic, the primary power system that maintains our wings is magic not bone and sinew.
Therefore a Demon Hunter should be able to fly if they become powerful enough. I believe Illidan the most powerful Demon Hunter and the progenitor of the class does have the ability to fly. Although it may come at a cost…
It does just feel bad seeing Dracthyr get to swoop around while DH has a glide. Funnily the first thing I thought of when seeing the Dracthyr’s Soar ability was Illidan’s taking off in the BC cinematic. Even at the time when DH were released I thought it was a kind of weird omission that DH didn’t get a flying equivalent to the Worgen’s Running Wild.
Demonology should have had flight with meta long before DH stole our form. Welcome to the club
Meta has been a DH ability since Warcraft times. Lock borrowed it.
Now that I think about it. Sore is on a 1.5 minute cooldown which basically means the Dracthyr can not fly without breaks.
At the start of the flight we could transform into the demon (use parts of the mounting animation of the class mount where you fly up) and revert upon landing.
The Dracthyr wings are very well animated and I am 100% sure you could apply those to the demon form wings as well.
It just makes so much sense. Blizzard, please.
This still isn’t as bad as taking demonic form from warlocks and giving it to a new hero class like in Legion.
two very different topics + warlocks had it coming anyway, as if they would never introduce a demon hunter class, much requested since Vanilla as it was advertised even in the box art.
fact is warlocks should have never had the ability and after they got rid of the warlock class designer they reverted almost all of his reaching designs.
Please, dont be like this and infuse another topic with yout saltiness about losing an ability after like 10 years. Get over it.

Anyone know Raziel from Soul Reaver? Old game but I’ve always found demon hunters and Raziel have a lot in common and thought the flight mechanic was similar and liked it for that reason.
Blizzard scrapping an entire spec with a unique and fun gameplay schema is a much bigger issue than DHs not getting a flying mechanic, which is why the topic is evergreen. DHs didnt even inheret the interesting version of meta either, its just a cooldown. That being said, people are bringing it up because your post makes it sound like Soar was wrongfully taken from DHs and given to Dracthyr and people are pointing out that warlocks had to sacrifice an entire spec to make DHs a thing. Sure in “the lore” DH had a skill called meta and they had it as gameplay in a different game from a different genre, but in the game we play, “World of Warcraft,” warlock had it first and it sucked to see the entire mechanic removed, independent of its name or aesthetics.
Maybe DHs will eventually get a flying mechanic like Soar, but I wouldnt count on it anytime soon. Flying is for the Dracthyr to make them different, build hype, and get that money. DH had its time in the sun during Legion, but now its a pleb like the rest of the other classes.
honestly if they would add it in a later patch that would totally be fine! But they should communicate it NOW so the classes have somethimg to look forward to.
theres ALOT of things wrong with dh, them not having soar isnt the thing to focus on now. also lore wise, current dh’s arent as strong to be in a constant state of demonfication like illidan, which means they wouldnt be able to fly. player dh’s are the chickens of the world of warcraft

the long cooldown of 1,5 ( actually 5min?) suggests that already.
4 min meta cd, you can get it down to 3:20 with maximum uptime with tier.
It’s a new mechanic being made for DF so it basically didn’t exist before, which means maybe DH can get a version of it through talents now.

Get over it, demo warlock was a compromise spec with metamorphosis literally stealing Illidan’s form until they decided to put DH in the game. In TBC warlock didn’t even have metamorphosis, and DH npc’s already existed.
Warlocks aren’t known for metamorphosis. Illidan is.
Instead be annoyed that out of all the Legion demon assets and Guldan’s spells in the Nighthold, they only gave you gimped dogs and imps instead of fel lords, shivarras, Inquisitors, Urzhuls, Pitguards and they even went and removed the doomguard as a demon cd.
No, they gave warlocks that look and then realized that Illidan isn’t a warlock. If Illidan was a warlock then we won’t have a DH class?
Demonology in TBC wasn’t about turning into a Demon, if I remember it right then it was added much later in Cata or something where you could have that DH look in Demo form. And then they also removed it which they shouldn’t have. They should have let Demo warlocks have that DH look while creating the DH class. Honestly, if that Orc warlock could occupy Illidan’s body temporarily to become a Demon or whatever then all demo warlocks should have been. I get your perspective on this but I don’t agree 100% on it lol
