It seems like everyone was hyping up shadowlands on youtube and other websites. People who were in the alpha and beta were saying things like “This will change WoW forever”
I actually enjoyed BFA more than Shadowlands…
As a casual, the story means a lot. I figured this would all be about the Jailer…and syl… but instead we got zones that have very little to do with the reason we came to the shadowlands to begin with. Do the people of bastion, maldraxxus, rivendreth, or arden even know who syl is, or why we are there hunting her?
It just feels so disconnected. Conduits are an absolute joke…worthless and a waste of dev time. Covenants are almost on that level since you “have” to pick a certain one otherwise you are gimping your characters output.
The maw and tor is…a chore to say the least. Does anyone enjoy doing stuff in the maw? Seriously? The procedure generated Torghast is kinda cool for the first few times but it also turns into a chore.
Still cant fly months after the expansion release and Jesus, navigating Rivendreth is about as fun as stapling your sack to a piece of plywood.
LFR (which is all I do) wasn’t exciting or challenging. Even Denathrius was a 1 shot. I remember how hard it was to drop N’zoth and then I find that denathirus is a pushover. I cant get a guild and real raids because I cant commit to a set schedule with my job.
I dont know… just with all the praise I heard from the alpha and beta testers… I expected to be blown away but I can honestly say with a straight face that I enjoyed BFA more than shadowlands. At least it had a main story that intertwined. Shadowlands feels like flipping through TV channels, watching a couple minutes of drama, then switching to something else.
Oh well… maybe the blizzcon announcement will bring things together a bit more. We shall see.
Oh. So you watched Bellular. Yeah, a mouse could fart and he’d make a video talking about the implications of how the fart could potentially lead to the cat finding the mouse, eating it, and then developing an illness, that illness becoming a pandemic, wiping out humans, resulting in the aliens taking over turning our planet into a capital for the new cosmic order-
“MOUSE FARTS?? THIS IS MASSIVE!”
You get the point. He has to do it to get clicks on his videos to pay his editors. Those are his reasons, and I don’t really have an opinion on that, but I still like his lore vids. But yeah maybe that’s why you think it’s a bit overhyped.
Personally I think the expansion is fine. We just need 9.1.
Every expansion is hyped up, and the YouTubers/Streamers/Websites need to act like big things are happening to get those clicks.
Also the “challenge” of LFR is highly variable because it’s 100% dependent on if there is mechanics that need to be addressed by the raid or not. Most people there aren’t paying attention, so if something needs to happen it’s going to be a lot of wipes.
Otherwise, LFR is tuned to be extremely easy. It’s working as intended if it’s easy.
Torghast, which sounded like an improvement upon horrific visions as solo content/non-meta group content. That has had a lot of mixed reviews, but I’m disappointed that it didn’t come with a similar reward structure to HV.
The removal of lottery-based loot systems. Probably wouldn’t have been so bad if loot actually dropped.
The weekly reward cache. Sounded great to have choices in this thing. Turns out the choices are far-too-often repeats of your current equipment, and if you aren’t a fan of M+ or PVP, this thing sucks until you have the entire raid on farm.
The return of PVP vendors, which sounds like that actually works pretty well for people who like to PVP.
The Threads of Fate system, which sounds pretty cool, but IDK, it felt like it was missing something to me, personally. If I ever level another alt, I’ll probably just do the story again.
They promised a profession revamp to make them meaningful once-again. They’re still useless outside of legendary crafting. No reason to go with anything besides alchemy or enchanting. JC still sucks. Glyphs have been sorely neglected for years now.
I don’t believe anyone planned for how unrewarding the gear structure would be following the removal of the lottery systems. I think a lot of people are missing the AP system, whether they want to admit it or not.
People were cautious and very skeptical about the covenant system and everything being bound to a rather inflexible system that they refuse to try and balance correctly, because they’re worried the progression-minded players will feel bad about picking the choice they felt forced to pick in the first place if they adjust anything.
It’s been a mess. Here’s hoping 9.1 remedies some of it.
