So... why is it so hard to get into mythic+ keys?

Push your own keys up, and lead your own groups

funny enough I just don’t see this at 8s and 10s.

I get enough tanks and healers applying I can be picky.

Run your own key. You’re competing against 630+ ilvl people with 200+ more IO than you when you queue as DPS.

For one, making tanking and healing fun again, lower the ratio of dps to other roles.

It’s a problem blizzard has created for themselves. I suspect that they wanted to make tanking and healing more appealing to dps players, so they’ve made tanking and healing more exciting and dynamic, because that’s what dps players want. They want that 360-no-scope-stimulant-fueled-triple-play. Slam on that keyboard and never miss a global, maximize your DPI and keyboard-press-pressure eyes-wide-open adrenaline rush.

But, they forgot (or assumed it wouldn’t matter, or didn’t bother to consider, or just plain didn’t care) that dps players don’t want responsibility. The personality that wants to play a 120 APM spec is not the personality that wants to do research and watch other peoples cooldowns.

And the personality that enjoys the responsibility, being the grownup in the room or the group mom doesn’t really feel enjoyment out of pushing their reaction time and cognitive load to the absolute max.

It’s just psychology.

So tank and healer players are leaving the game, or cutting their play time to friends only. And dps players are not picking up the mantle in numbers enough to outpace it. Even with hours difference in queue times.

And all we can do about it is complain on the forums. Explain ad nauseam what, imho, would be immediately obvious to fans of the genre.

Or, if we aren’t interested in going backwards, the next step would be making tanks and healers support for dps. Go full guild-wars, no trinity style. But, imho, that’s not better. As a multi-game, decades long player of MMORPGs, I have no interest in playing non-trinity MMO’s.

But at the end of the day, the current state is not maintainable. We either go back, try to get the tanks and healers back, or we go forward and cut the roles loose.

You have the right idea by playing tank spec here and there.
I’ll be on in like 5 or 6 hours if you want to play?
I’ll be on druid tank/heals tonight, Talon - Black Dragonflight

I’ll take you into 10s right after I beat them myself on my Mistweaver.

Probably next week lol

This is terrible advice

DO NOT spend gilded crests on heroic track gear unless its a raid trinket you can’t replace. Instead spend gilded crests on crafted gear or upgrading Mythic track gear.
This is the problem with the crest system 619 is the real heroic cap because any crest spent over that on heroic track is at least 15 wasted crests

I was meaning the myth gear he has from doing the +10s he HAS got into. 639 is better than the 636 crafted.

it was fine all the way to +11s everywhere but i cant get in 12s now for some reason.
like i’ll spend the whole night applying and never get into any of em.

it feels like they only take people that already timed a 12… had to get there early i guess.

fine… i’ll stick to just filling vault with 10s… whatever.

“I’m putting together a crack team…”

Its Raider . io. I dislike it. if they just added a ranked que system for M+ like Rated arenas but with a solo que option… It would kill raiderio and I think they legit have not done it for that exact reason.

It’s this plus the fact that OP is a ret pally. I was invited to an 8 as the first dps recently and when I opened the dungeon finder you wouldn’t believe how many ret pallies were qued up. So it’s not just that there’s 100+ other dps, 50 of them are also ret pallys lol.

Even when ret is doing well, lolret.

it’s worse on ww monk. dont have the brez, or anything really

Pretty much lol. When we’re bad we don’t get invited and when we’re good we still don’t because there’s so many of us. Feels bad.

Ret pally is not a problem. It’s 625ilvl DPS at 2400-2600 IO is not good enough for +10. He’s competing against 630-635+ DPS with 2800-3000+ like Shaman DPS, FDK, Sin Rogue and Mage. They WILL queue for +10 because they want to do +10 for the weekly vaults.

You are in a tough spot.

Imagine someone else who is in the same situation as you, and they say “forget this, I can’t get into a key, I’m just going to push my own”.

They list their +8, they vet people, build a strong group, and 2 chest it.

Now they have a +10 key. Finally they can get their 10 done and not get rejected repeatedly.

They list their key, immediately people start signing up. Wow, these guys are way more qualified than the people doing +8s. Instead of low geared alts farming crests, now you have 635 mains with 2600-3k score signing up just to get their weekly vaults done. There is no lack of DPS to choose from. You are waiting for a healer and tank to sign up and looking through the DPS, during this time you notice 2 ridiculously overqualified people sign up, 633 players with 2900 score.

Understand that this is what you are competing with. In this very scenario I just described, probably 20-30 DPS got passed over on a +10.

Of those 20, maybe 2 guys get fed up and decide to just list their own key, and the cycle repeats.

It’s late in the season. If you aren’t overqualified for a key, you get to do the work of making the group and pushing your key.

Being able to just waltz into someone else’s +10 Dawnbreaker and get a chill free weekly vault key out of the way is a luxury for overqualified people.

If I couldn’t get into a group in 5 minutes on a DPS I just ran my own key.

There’s A LOT of assumptions going on here.

No, dps players aren’t interested in tanking or healing. If they were, they’d try it - regardless of whatever scenario you have created here. Which brings me onto the scenario you actually created because, I have already addressed this:

What you are saying here is that “in order to populate the game with more tanks and healers, Blizzard purposefully made players worse at the game in order to make other roles appealing to players who doesn’t find those roles appealing to them.” This hinges on you assuming that the general DPS mentality is that of a bad player. As you repeatedly use negatively loaded normative language and then make the claim “It’s just psychology.”

… mate, no - what you just said (even ignoring me trying to paraphrase it) here doesn’t make any sense.

Each role have a specific type of mindset that goes into it that showcases what a good or a bad player is, and a lot of these mindsets are antithetical to each other.

A good tank knows their boundaries and learn when to push and break them.
A good healer learn what’s necessary for the group and makes split second decisions to break conventions if it saves a group.
A good dps knows when to take a risk to increase their damage, even at the danger to themselves and the group.

Those three mentalities are VASTLY different ones, and there’s a reason why at the top of the game … folks just to stick to one of these roles. There’s historically very few good flex players, lots of decent to half-decent ones, and folks who change their mind, but true flex players? That’s an INSANELY rare thing!

So if you want to talk about psychology, you can start there - because that’s the starting point of discussing how different roles play and how some of them may overlap, when they overlap, how they overlap, and when conventions break and become more interesting to players via said broken standard conventions.

Proof. Show evidence.
The only thing you have talked about is about “folks complaining” and then making massive assumptions.

The number of people who post on these forums? That’s roughly 0.0003% of the playerbase IIRC. I did the math a while back but you are talking about less than a percentage of a percentage. There’s not a single view on these forums that are able to represent the totality of active players in the game. There’s some data that can be extrapolated but absolutely none that are as far reaching as to make the claims that you have been making here.

Are you a tank? Are you a healer? Well, there you go.
