So why is it okay for the Alliance to send a fleet to chase Princess Talanji?

Title.

Just levelling another Alliance character; the intro to Kul Tiras starts with a survivor regaling SW high command with how the Alliance fleet has been decimated after chasing Talanji and Prophet Zul.

Why is it acceptable/On what grounds is SW chasing/harassing the potential sovereign of a sovereign nation? Yes, they were “prisoners” but even that is super suspect. Who made SW the world’s police anyway to apprehend and chase? Why is this unsavory self-appointed policing behaviour of SW not addressed and critiqued in-game?

Sorta related… What got her arrested? Was she taken captive? Or initiating an attack?

Yes, I don’t recall it being explained or confirmed. Just super vague, flimsy aspersions about potential espionage IIRC. Again, where is the due process?

I mean the Alliance did attack the Goblins who were neutral from kezan during Cataclysm. So I guess the Zandalari was sailing in Alliance Waters during that time.

I’m very fuzzy on the details, but what due process do you expect? If it is the case that she was plotting espionage, then she’s a political prisoner who was orchestrating an attack on the Alliance.

I don’t know if speaking of “due process” in Azeroth is a fair comparison, especially since, “See those bandits? Magistrate says go kill’em” appears to be the status quo. Relative to Azeroth standards, being taken prisoner seems like a luxury lol

Now granted, if they went and captured her for craps and giggles or for a Kezan scenario, that’s a different story. But, again, idk the circumstances of her capture.

Also, they were probably a little, tiny bit pissed that Zul set fire to Stormwind.

The only reason it’s “acceptable” is because literally no one in the Zandalari - not even Talanji herself - really seems to care that she got captured by the Alliance. There’s no followup to it at all.

The actual reason behind it all is to set up the Saurfang cinematics. They had to really hammer it in that Saurfang’s super sad about everything, and what better way to do that than have the Horde player go visit him and promptly get turned away. This is to set the stage for Anduin releasing him and thereby proving to the Horde player how super awesom Anduin is.

I’m disinclined to believe this was actually the issue - Jaina and the others were pretty hellbent on recapturing Talanji even before they realized what Zul did.

(It’s also kinda amazing to think how narratively insignificant the Horde almost burning down Stormwind on the way out was.)

Huh? I’m confused.

That would have been at least 3-4 years in the past if we’re going by the 1 year in-game time per expac comparison. Also what does a royal family member have to do with the (alleged) actions* of her people.

*Where do Zandalari fit in with Kezan?

What I’m saying is that Alliance attacks anyone if they were like huge enemies in the past given the fact that they were sailing in their Open Waters given the fact that the Zandalari were huge enemies at the time during Mists and since the Zandalari were like on Open Waters. The Alliance attacked them and put Talanji and Zul in Jail.

I mean that’s the only reason I can think of as to why the Zandalari Princess and Prophet was captured. Of course others on here will probably atleast example it better. I just only know the only reason why Talanji was captured.

Garrosh had an international trial. When a potential sovereign of a sovereign and neutral nation is involved, I’d expect something similar.

If it is the case that she was plotting espionage, then she’s a political prisoner who was orchestrating an attack on the Alliance.

Except I don’t think we see an confirmation or resolution to this.

I don’t know if speaking of “due process” in Azeroth is a fair comparison, especially since, “See those bandits? Magistrate says go kill’em”

I am inclined to agree, but this is royalty we are talking about, and from a nation that has kept out of the fray as per the respective timeline. We also have some sort of precedent in the form of Garrosh’s trial.

idk the circumstances of her capture.

I don’t either.

The Alliance unjustly kidnapped the princess because they think they can do whatever they want. Thankfully, the good guys were there to rescue her and escort her safely home :relaxed:.

I thought I was going mad or massively missed something. Good to know this is not the case.

Also, they were probably a little, tiny bit pissed that Zul set fire to Stormwind.

Yeah but if you imprison someone, can you really blame them if the try to break free? And that brings me back to point 1 - on what grounds, by what right did have to arrest and imprison?

I mean, fair point, but arresting someone without reason seems unjust. You warn, then kick a trespasser out, not throw them in jail. Especially if that someone happens to be high-ranking royalty.

I mean then again. Much of BFA was kind of confessing in terms of the lore. I can only think of that one reason why they got captured was probably due to past history with the Alliance during Mists or atleast another reason the Alliance was doing things that was questionable. Again I’m not a Greatest Lore Person. I can only know some things piece by piece in terms of memory.

When the Alliance needs to have stupid reasons for pissing off entire races it’s because the writers make the Alliance have dogmatic reasons for doing so.

The Blood Elves aren’t trusted by the Alliance so they send a Dwarf Spy instead of a real emissary to make peace for no reason. The Night Elves are out in the Ghostlands because they don’t trust former High Borne and make things worse(despite taking in High Borne NE mages later). The Nightborne aren’t trusted by the Night Elves because stupid reasons.

You can probably chalk this up to the Alliance not trusting trolls and not recognizing the trolls they had in custody were important because all trolls look alike or something stupid, which again ends up with them joining the Horde.

Basically something like:

New race “Oh hai guys”
Alliance “…do you worship the light?”
New race “Ummm sometimes?”
Alliance " “Do you sorta look like us already?”
New Race “…sometimes”
Alliance “DON’T TRUST YOU HEATHEN SCUM!”
New Race “wtf?”

New Race “This world is rough.”
Horde “Were you bullied by the Alliance?”
New Race “We sure were!”
Horde “WELCOME TO THE HORDE!”
New Race “FOR TEH HORDE!”

Not exactly. It was more like Varian and Thrall getting ready to start another war over who would punish Garoosh and the Pandaren intervened and presented themselves as a wounded third party that both could save face by giving them the forum for trying him.

The circumstances were unique, not precedent setting.

Because the last time they saw that sovereign nation, in Pandaria, they were trying to help enslave everyone.

I saw it more about Zul.

Alliance captured the guy leading the troll supremacist offensive that spanned Cata and MoP. Heck, not too long prior, the Horde probably would have done the same, if they didn’t just execute the guy outright.

The Princess would have just been collateral. Like, she’s a ranking troll that was chilling with Zul. Of course they’re going to nab her. And then, Stormwind was raided, fires started, and they violently escaped.

Of course they’re gonna chase their butts.

Jokes and memes aside, the Zandalari have been hostile to the Alliance for years. They tried to rouse the Gurubashi on Stormwind’s southern border during Cata, and then in MoP they invaded Pandaria and rezzed the Thunder King. Now, the princess of that hostile faction, was en route to try and become friendly with the Horde. That would be two powerful factions the Alliance would be at war with. Since Talanji was acting on her own, presumably Anduin figured as long as they quietly held her they were preventing the Horde and Zandalari from teaming up.

This is all guesswork though, since Blizz never bothered to address it at all. The goblins getting blasted in their cutscene had more of a story setup than this did.

This is a a question that should’ve been answered in a novel or having Anduin in that fight against Rastakhan.

noooooooooo you can’t just imprison your longstanding enemies and take action against them
hahah jail cells go clink clink

etc.
