So Who Is Controlling The Scourge Now?

With the Lich King retiring and the Helm of Domination broken and then bits made into the Crown on Wills, who’s keeping this possible giant army of Undead under control?

When we were off doing heroic things in the Shadowlands the Scourge was running amok on Azeroth. But something/someone managed to beat them back without our help. And since we haven’t seen them in the 3 years since returning someone’s gotta be controlling them. But who?

Apparently the Ebon Blade are looking after them or took care of it.

Something lame like that.

Yeah it was just quickly written in that the Ebon Blade handled it.
Which is absurd because, you know, there must always be a Lich King is probably the most famous quote in WoW, if not all of gaming. Apparently it isn’t true.

Well, it would give the Ebon Blade a purpose.

Retcons. Blizz’s get outta lore card.

Yeah no let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I can think of several more notable video game quotes.

Most were fought back against during the time skip.

Death Knights are the laughingstock of Azeroth, lore wise.

Not only does the most formidable Death Knight get disenchanted (Arthas), but the current Liche King got his butt handed to him by Saturday Dragonball Z Villain.

Are Death Knights even relevant anymore? Who honestly wants a Death Knight around? We can kill Scourge with Paladins and Fire.

Indeed.

I was just hoping they would give us a little more. I mean, they could even just have made it so they were no longer animate, since Zovaal is gone. Though, I’m not sure if they’re linked to his power or the necromantic energies of Maldraxxus.

For how dangerous they were, it just seems the Ebon Blade would not have been enough.

Just too many unanswered questions I guess.

Yeah. I remember that they made it all the way to Red Ridge Mountains before being defeated(?), so there was probably a lot of rebuilding after their rampage.

I assume, since the crown has been shattered and the scourge ran rampant without it, and due to the time skip, that we’ve got it “under control”.

Or at the very least, it’s a small nagging threat and nothing huge like with the Legion invasion.

So yeah, it’s probably being handled in the background, by the Ebon Blade or Argent Dawn, or whoever’s left around to deal with 'em.

If by “running amok” you mean milling about aimlessly.

Going forward in lore since there’s no way to create them anymore, as far as we know, the ones we still have are just good enough to help out in the faction wars. Oh wait.

This will come off as uneducated about the lore, but how are the Scourge still considered a credible threat to the whole planet after WoTLK? From my understanding the Scourge was pretty much reduced in numbers at the end of it, so I fail to see how they managed to become/remain a threat like they were under Arthas, unless Bolvar has just been secretly going out at night to perform some cheeky grave robbing?

Just go to UC or Darnassus - plenty to go around…

Don’t be fooled. That was just to lure people in closer so they get eat them.

The remaining mindless Scourge will likely feature in some future storylines.

They did say that Bolivar and the Ebon Blade are focused on dealing with the Scourge, but they are just keeping an eye on the situation and holding them in check. It’s not a permanent solution.

The Scourge is essentially just an unclaimed army without a leader. If a necromancer showed up and wanted to control even a portion of the army for some nefarious purpose then they would immediately become a threat (just maybe not a world ending catastrophe).
