So when you get quests that are levels far above you, do you just grind on regular mobs until it's safe to continue with that quest?

I’m trying to figure out what’s the best way to go about this because I’m already out the starting zone and I’m getting quests at level 5 that are level 9 or 8.

I jump to another races starting area and pick up some quests there to make up the short fall.

They should ease up slowly.

Where are you exactly?

Pick up a profession and work on that while grinding. A great example is skinning. Kill mobs and skin for XP and to level it up. Easiest thing to do and as the AH picks up, you’ll make some $$.

Yes and no. You could go run a dungeon or two to pick up that xp. You don’t necessarily have to straight grind mobs.

That being said, grinding world mobs isn’t a terrible idea. It can be quite efficient for leveling, if you can tolerate it and figure out a good loop.

AoE grinding works best if you can, running with a group to grind also works well.

The original game was designed to require grinding or major zone hopping to get level appropriate quests. Grinding was THE way to level in the other MMOs at the time so it’s a reflection of the times WoW was first created during.

Grinding mobs and dungeons is an excellent way to get money and gear upgrades between quest tiers. Sit back, relax and work on that muscle memory.

If you’re level 5 and you’re getting level 9 quests, you missed something.

There are points in the game where some grinding is needed, but the starter zones are not among them. I mean, you “can” kill stuff and grind to 9, but there should be quests there you can do.

I used to always level up on the boars outside Orgrimmar - the boar hide stacks would sell well in the AH and the I would have money to buy ammo, or a better bow.

But yes - questing and killing mobs and setting your own agenda is very much the classic mentality.

^^This. There is always a breadcrumb out of the starter area that takes you to the next area (e.g. Senjin Village for Trolls and Orcs). Then there is usually a “rite of passage” set of quests at around lvl 10 IIRC - e.g. hunters get their first pet, which is usually in a third area (e.g. Razor Hill for Troll or Orc).

Do NOT kill just the bare minimum of mobs for the quest. You need to spend some time grinding, after finishing the quest requirements. With retail, you could kill the 5 mobs required, turn it in, and get a zillion xp. Not so in classic.

Tailoring and Leatherworking are great for this extra grinding. But if you have neither, every time you kill humanoids (post level 5), farm them until you get a stack of cloth. You’ll need to level up First Aid anyway.

Yeah, this reminds me, never pass up a mob on your way to a destination. The XP is important. Doing the same with gathering nodes helps a lot too.

I grind extra mobs.

Its because you are doing the minimum to get quests done. This isn’t BFA you have to do additional stuff.

Mob grind or go to a different zone of the same level. You can also group up and wreck things.

I usually use times like that to go work on professions, killing enemies along the way between nodes.
