So. When survival gets in inevitable rework

well the spec doesnt say you use a variety of weapons just that you are adaptive and use explosives and venom. if you can put explosive and venom on arrows you can put it on spears. you can just say you want the spec to stay the same forever lol this is just an ideas thread

i guess my thinking is that you can make bombs, you have a pistol and a crossbow. is the fantasy that you still jump in and hit stuff when you have all of these tools? surely they are so functional they would replace using a spear at all. im not saying make the spec ranged i am just thinking is the fantasy working because clearly people keep bringing up the bombs.

when i think of survival i always picture the spec icon of the elf in the bushes. to me it should feel like an ambush hunter leaping in with a spear. if the target tries to run away you throw the spear to slow it down and harpoon back in. now if im throwing bombs and have a gun that kind of falls apart for me. i wouldnt need to hide in the bushes and track things i could just run in throwing bombs.

it also doesn’t say you only use one weapon :stuck_out_tongue:

this thread is not an ideas thread be real, this thread is 90% people upset that survival isn’t “realistic”. anyone complaining about that immediately loses any weight behind their opinion

2h Frost players are arguably just as, if not more insufferable.

On topic, Survival doesn’t need a rework in the sense of Ret or Frost but a “rework” in the sense of Rogue/DH talents, mostly the capstones, getting adjusted. The 20 & below gate is abysmally designed. Spearhead & Fury should be a choice node with a universal/generic upgrade path like Final Reckoning & Executioner’s Sentence, CA should be moved up and more centralized in the spec like Avenging Wrath/Berserk/Pillar, etc.

Altani and myself had a discussion on the making of Wildfire Bomb, and they came to a good theory that it’s biological in creation.

There’s a number of creatures that are composed of fire or Volatile chemicals, which could be harvested to form Wildfire Bombs. They could be nothing mechanical about them, and are natural in composition that fits with Hunter’s more natural.

Also forgot that Troll Batriders from Warcraft 3 had Liquid Fire:

Fling a volatile liquid that causes buildings to take damage over time. Buildings that are currently taking damage from Liquid Fire have their repair rate reduced by 75% ,and have their attack rate reduced by 60%.

Which could be a inspiration for WfB.

there are a few people that posted their genuine ideas but u are right that its mostly arguments about strange things unfortunately.

right, it can be headcanoned to be so many different things. really not sure why so many people get hung up on it

It’s how you interpret WfB. Thinking it as a grenade than it is mechanical and modernized. A device that requires technical knowledge that not known for Hunters.

As a biological and natural substance than it was hunted and farmed. This fits in with Hunters as they live off the land and eschew from modern life.

Right, if fits that non-canon interpretation of hunters :stuck_out_tongue: i’m glad there’s something for everyone’s head canon!

Survival Hunter is like playing Dutch or Rambo. They use their survival training to turn the environment into a weapon.

Well, yeah. Admittedly, Explosive Shot should just use the crossbow as well, but a gun is the only thing that can get more force out of an attack than a direct application of one’s strength.

A bow has inherent loss compared to just stabbing someone. And a crossbow of 120 pounds’ draw may only have the penetration of a 30 lb draw bow depending on the action length of each (hand-crossbow vs. a horse bow or light crossbow vs. longbow).

And since we’re generally willing to treat what would otherwise be consumables (Explosive Shot, Crimson Phial, Freezing Trap, etc.) instead as CDs and guns as not necessarily having any inherent damage bonus over bows or bows over crossbows, yeah, that leaves reason to use the spear even without forcing amnesia onto Survival in all things ranged.

Well, that it could be. My own take was just that it’s essentially a really basic caustic and flammable oil, as per the WC3 Liquid Fire.

As for someone head-canon-ing it into a 20th/21st century explosive, I’d say they may as well imagine how they like… as long as it’s the same type of AoE. A conal doesn’t suddenly become a radial explosion just because the literal only throwable explosive one has awareness of is an M67 fragmentation grenade.

As WoW is a fantasy based game the components of WfB has more potential of being pieces from a create. Bodily secretions or glands. There’s a variety of elementals and beasts that explode after death. WfB could be made from exotic parts.

honestly if you want to get rid of bombs because “waaaugh MY PETS ARE GONNA GET BLOWN UP ITS NOT REALISTIC!!1” then you must accept all specs being able to tame exotics, because after all it’s not very realistic either

The thing is there’s a “trick” to taming Exotics, and Beastmastery is the only spec who knows it.

fixed it for you

Play Beastmastery if you want to know. Do not blame me for choosing the wrong speculation.

i do play beastmastery

saying that they have a “special trick” to tame exotic beasts while in the same vein screaming “NO EXPLOSIONS ARE BAD!” while bm hunters have a 2 headed rock dog monster is just silly

He isn’t the one presently saying explosions are innately bad, though? He’s simply noting that WoW fully allows for a head-canon-ing version WFB that would fully fit within even a “low/no-tech” primal Hunter fantasy.

I.e., even a “No saltpeter! No guns! No rockets! No nitrates of any kind!” could be fine with WFB if they just stopped assuming that anything that sets something on fire must be modern tech.

And how does that have anything to do with whether you deserve to have Exotic pets on SV or on MM (where you wouldn’t use them anyways)???

can you tell me with a straight face that given the topic of the thread and the back and forth that happened here for days now. that this person doesnt want explosions to be removed?

He didn’t want X theme. Since being convinced it needn’t be part of X theme, he’s seemed fine with it. /shrug

Still no idea why you and Sneakrox are equating bombs with Exotic Taming. If MM can uniquely ricochet shots off of enemies to strike extra enemies, why wouldn’t a Beast Master be able to tame certain beasts not tamable by the average Hunter?
