See latest nerfs to thunderous roar and odyn’s fury to apply target caps at 8 with reduced damage beyond. Those are both longish cooldowns. Meanwhile other classes are just spamming their mass AoE button every 4th button.
Only 2 classes are still target capped after Blizzard ended its war on AoE in shadowlands. Those two are fury (whirlwind splash to only 4 other mobs) and Shamans chain lightning.
See current (DF S4) season fury warrior for the trashcan it is in most dungeons due to pull sizes and number of targets, only way for the fury warrior to compete was its long CD thunderous roar which was uncapped, but say goodbye!
I am begging people to actually read and processs the patch notes before getting up in arms (no pun intended).
Odyn’s Fury and Thunderous Roar recived the following changes in addition to the reduced damage past 8 targets.
All Fury Warrior Ability Damage (Including Odyn’s Fury & Thunderous Roar) increased by 49%.
Odyn’s Fury damage increased by 33%.
Thunderous Roar’s Uproar Talent (Reduced CD) reduces the cooldown of Thunderous Roar by 45 seconds, was 30 seconds.
This is on top of Ravager and Bladestorm also getting substantial buffs increasing our AoE further.
The target caps are there because Warrior would be absolutely insane without them. Additionally with how M+ tuning looks on beta, there will be much smaller pulls than we’ve seen, meaning the target cap won’t come into play nearly as often.
Odyn’s Fury hit was already target capped. I don’t think the DoT was, but I could be wrong.
The 5-target cap is to Meat Cleaver/Whirlwind’s cleaving ST abilities onto 5 targets. It’s… actually not bad in TWW. They’ve improved it a lot via Thane having Thunder Clap/Blast replacing Whirlwind and actually dealing damage. Slayer has Reap procs, which are strong.
I am begging people to critically think. Why are you OK with mediocrity?
Your answer to target caps is “well they made it so people can’t pull as big” doesn’t fix the issue fury warrior has. It just makes it hidden until the next time it isn’t since the problem wasn’t actually fixed. Stop accepting the mentality of “it’s just good enough”.
Ask for Blizzard to actually fix the game, they could balance the falloff damage of hitting more than 5 targets for fury the same way the balance it for the other classes, Stop accepting mediocrity.
Changing 1.5 minute CDs (some with CDR to around 45-50), is just going to make the fury warrior very spikey and perform well in low end content, but fall off in high end content where other classes can do AoE continually.
Blizzard giga buffed several of our abilities and balanced the Fury Talents around two Hero Trees with tons of incidental free AoE.
But that’s settling with mediocrity and not improving Fury’s specific damage profile of low target AoE which has made them a solid choice in Raids and M+ for the last 4 expansions?
Good post to tell me you play non competitively without telling me you play non competitively. Why do you think Arms has been superior to fury in almost all competitive content since the change to AoE target cap? Even throughout Dragonflight where the Arms talent tree was one of the worst of forcing you to either be AoE build or ST build.
The argument of Hero Talents to the rescue falls flat because most other classes hero talents also buffs their AoE, which was uncapped to begin with. Forever behind will remain forever behind outside of add packs hitting out 1.5 minute CDs windows.
It hasn’t. S4 Dragonflight was the first time since S3 BfA that Arms has had an advantage over Fury in M+, and has fluctuated in raid with both specs having they’re time to shine. Fury consistently however has been the better choice when more than two targets are involved. Amidrassil has been an excellent example of Fury outpacing Arms in AoE scenarios. Additionally the bonus Stamina and War Paint talents have had Fury as a premier M+ spec for Warriors.
You can check popularity and Raider IO ranking for every season since the sites release. Fury is consistently a strong, popular spec for Warriors and that hasn’t changed with the target cap.
And yet Fury Warriors haven’t found a lack of success due to their damage profile. In fact most people agree that Fury’s ability to send priority damage at dangerous targets while still comitting to AoE, is one of the better parts of the spec.
If Fury Warriors are ever lacking its due to poor tuning (Like the beginning of S4 Dragonflight) or its due to the lack of utility that all Warriors struggle to bring in groups in small level content.
But surely since I don’t, “Play the game competitively” can you demonstrate where Fury’s damage profile has been the sole reason it’s been checks notes Undervalued?
Have you bothered to look into or participate in TWW beta testing?
Fury has an excellent damage profile for the majority of the new raid, the add waves coincide very well with our AOE burst cooldowns.
Fury has continuous AOE as well, Infact you barely have to sacrifice any ST damage to gain full AOE capabilities which makes Fury an even greater pick for early prog.
With fury running Bladestorm, 45 Second Thunderous roar CD and huge buff to Odyns fury and its synergies, removing the 5 cap target could make them ridiculously powerful. Then they would nerf all the fun stuff to compensate. I have wanted the 5 cap removed forever but with TWW builds and talents it dosent make sense. We have gained utilty with Shockwave as well, theres gotta be some balance kept.
From the look of it we have so much burst potential now unleashing too early is gonna rip all threat and be a quick run back for you or a battle res.
Theres also the other side of the coin…as far as I have read Ion said the pull sizes would be smaller in TWW.
Bro it would be insane without a 5 target cap, they’d easily top 25 mil per pull. There isn’t a single class in this game that can hit more than 3 targets besides maybe one class, or most of them. But show me evidence where a single class has achieved more than 5 million DPS on an AoE pull even now in S2 of TWW, no one ever has EXCEPT Warriors who at 5 targets already do like 19 billion DPS. Besides Warlocks. Also Mages. Hunters too. Oh don’t forget Ret. But I guess that’s because those classes are harder, especially Ret. Like Ret has no defensives, utility or healing capabilities, so of course they get uncapped AoE on their hammers. Mages cannot use Bloodlust so they NEED their AoE caps where they are. Warlocks cannot cast more than one spell a minute so they also need to be able to hit 40 mil burst on a pull. Hunters, literally still use ammo like it is 2005 and also cannot hit a target more than once per combat and have no defensives or utility. Elemental Shamans CAN use Bloodlust but they only have access to one damaging spell, which is chain lightning so they also need giga huge AoE caps. Warrior though? Divine shield, Blessing of Protection, Hand of Freedom, Turtle, Alter Time, Mass Barrier, Healthstones, Soulstones, Lay on Hands, Demonic Gate, Rain of Fire, Combustion, Beast Cleave. All Warrior abilities that no other class can use while also doing the most DPS at 5 target cap. Just never look at any log because they are always lower because of a secret cabal of people who make the meter addons that hide Warrior True DPS to make them seem weak so Blizzard buffs them, which we all know once a class is buffed they literally cannot be tuned down after, well they could but lets say they can’t.
It isn’t ironic, because there have been vast tuning changes since the post was originally made. Anyone talking about something from 10 + months ago and equating it to today are the entire reason why devs don’t interact on the forums.
