So when did Archmage Drenden die?

Xal’atath has been impersonating him for years she claims. When did he die?

I think he died when Xal’atath killed him :eyes:

Glancing at his history, I’d have to guess probably during the Third War during the Siege of Dalaran since they cite his fate was unknown after the siege, but it’s not clear if the fate they are mentioning is his fate in general (since he was allowed to re-join the Six later on) or just his fate as a member of the council.

Xal was imprisoned at that time.

Was likely during SL.

Yeah she was a knife until crucible of the storm.

So it had to have been between then and now that he died.

Or he was missing after the siege and she just showed up as him once she was freed, but that’s kinda suspicious

Not dead. He’s retired and living in Patagonia with the original Dread Pirate Roberts.

A powerful void entity that was bound in a dagger only N’Zoth could sever. She could easily pass detection in that case especially if they didn’t even know they needed to look

There’s a 5 year time-skip between SL and DF. So probably in there.

It’s not clear exactly when he died (never specified) however seeing as he was a member of the Council of Six during the years when Antonidas was the leader of the Kirin Tor and was not part of the Council of Six when the Kirin Tor emerged from under their magical shield during the Nexus War, it’s likely that he was killed by either the Legion or the Scourge when Dalaran initially fell during the Third War.

Drenden was an rts character that never appeared in wow.
His death could have happened at any time really.
Well, long ago enough to be called “years”.

Best place to hide is amongst those looking for you. Their focus is for finding external threats. They don’t check within until it is too late.

Easy to mask a magic signature amongst other wizards and as one of the council you are appraised of any suspicions.

As to the moment when she pulled the switch we might never know. Maybe someday it will be mentioned in chronicles or shown in an animated flashback. Until then we can only guess

I just really want to know :weary:

I love the behind the scenes tidbits of lore that make the game story make more sense.

Xal says he was dead for more than 10 years.

I agree, I like nerding out and researching over little story tidbits like this as someone who mainly only pays attention to the lore that’s presented in the live game. My guess is though that they just used this character who was in the lore but wasn’t already in the game and just tossed it away as a throwback/easter egg.

I remember researching jarod shadowsong during the BFA Darkshore events because they were talking about how great he was and I was like “Ok cool never heard of the guy personally” lol But it was neat to look him up and put the pieces together.

I only wish there had been an actual lead-up to that reveal.

From what I read was hoping this might be explained in Age of Discovery. Many speculated that the shadowy figure was Xal’atath.

If that was true I would have loved to see it ends with her replacing Drenden. Would have been a spoiler for those who played but would have tied Age of Discovery to current lore.

Look, they’re all really bad at playing Among Us. Xal’atath just spied on their monthly game night and realized what her best chance to sabotage Dalaran would be.
