So What I have learned about M+ as a healer

So a few things I learned as, a mostly pugging healer for M+ because I just don’t have times that mesh with guild mates anymore to raid/m+ due to work:

M+ is the most untoxic, or toxic place you can be: There is NO middle to this.

You either got a super high Item level/IO tank who is “the BEST…in the world” Carrying his friend pulling like an absolute moron while the other dps have no chance to get those adds down in time

OR you got the guy who is helping a friend and is realistic to what a pug is and know he is helping and takes his time.

Either case: You won’t be timing this key and you won’t just find a chill steady paced group.

The item level 250/255 dps who can barely cracked 5-6k dps in a 13/14/15 and blames everyone else for the group failing: ITS HIS KEY YOU SEE! and because it is his key he is the Alpha: or so he thinks of the group.

The: “Oh look swirlys/greenstuff/fire/cleave” group: LET ME STAND IN IT AND DIE. which becomes “WTF heal you don’t know how to heal? HUHUHUHUHHUH?”

The “That tank should never be here…” group. Friend taken his tank friend along who is most squishy then a box of crackers and dies to almost every pull: This is either the heals fault, or the dps faults but never the tanks lack of gear fault: Dps didn’t kill it fast enough or heal couldn’t keep the tank up while he chain pulls 50 things.

The “I am a tank and won’t kite” guy. Necrotic weak you say? over 20 stacks huh? What should the tank do hey look a ROP to knock the adds back maybe the tank should oh…nope…nope nope just run through the ROP and keep getting hit anddddd…your dead.

The “ADVICE IS FOR LOSERS WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU” club. Don’t even try to suggest, or give advice to a pug M+ they just won’t want to hear it: it does not matter WHAT IT IS you are just there to SHUT UP and heal “But hey I am out of mana and your not killing Urh could you stop for ten secon…” SHUT UP LEARN TO HEAL WTF OMG /keeps pulling.

And that blizzard…is the real state of your current game. Last season was so much more fun when I had time to run with guild mates and friends ~_~

Edit: These clubs and groups are not exclusive: they can and will cross over into each other as well, so its like our own version of M+ Affixes!

This week I got: Low level tank, low item level dps, won’t let me mana up and stand in the bad Affixes. Ouch rough week for me.

Honestly one of the many reasons I prefer Classic. M+ timers imo created some of the toxic gameplay we have seen today. In Classic I feel like I regained the ability to say BRB and not ruin 4 peoples day.

Yeah it’s a whole lot of clueless dps keystone pushers who have only got there being carried by good healers

Oh and also I am not trying to put my self on some time of totem here either: I can, have and will make mistakes but I can own them and eat them when it happens.

Example: group killed WO and they all ran ahead and for whatever reason I was in combat and did not go invis: didn’t even notice it until the mobs ripped my face off.

What did I just read

I’m just gunna add that a lot of people roll healers to get boosted too. The amount of dog food resto shamans I invite that are 2.5+ that have no clue what buttons to push is absurd. Shouldn’t have to tell someone when to lust doing 19’s.

Have had more trouble with healers than I have with any other roll, and I was a healer main for years.

Quoted for truth.

That’s why I don’t engage. I won’t be part of the toxic mess Ion created.

I mean, I’m a healer and I don’t see it that way at all. In my opinion, “clueless DPS” is mutually exclusive to “keystone pushers.” DPS decide whether or not you’re going to time the key, and they do so by executing mechanics- mainly interrupting the high priority NPCs and not standing in frontals. (And, obviously, by bringing enough DPS to burn the enemies.)

As a healer, I can’t control a lot when things go really south, because at a high enough key level, nobody in the world can rescue a wipe because a single mistake results in an instagib.

Yes, there is toxicity. And there’s no excuse for that. Once you reach a high enough level, there’s an expectation of competence, and toxicity at that point is dragging everybody else over the coals as you walk out the door. If you’re going to leave, just leave. No need to make people feel even worse than they already do.

Well, if you think about how good the average dps player is (not very), that’s how good the average healer is…it’s just a lot easier to hide your mediocre performance as a healer until you hit like…close to mid 20s.

I don’t want some random to say BRB in the middle of a run unless it’s an actual emergency. That’s what I love about retail. You don’t have a tank go afk for 10 minutes and wonder if you need to go back to Stormwind to look for a replacement.

Attitudes like these certainly existed in classic. Dunning Kruger effects everyone not just some select group of people.

TLDR: Pugs inconsistent, but usually bad.

This is a sneakily tough week for affix too.

Bolster/fort/quake isn’t a set to be overlooked.

Seen many tanks do massive pulls only to realize fort/bolster hurts a lot and then when you have 4 people in for quaking practically pvp’ing each other and your healer has to stop casting for a sec it can definitely cause them to fall behind.

Honestly it’s mostly just fort. People massively underrate it as an affix cause they’ve still got BFA/Legion brain of Tyrannical being the “hard” weeks.

Pro tip: link them their death logs from details and then explain what they died to. If it was avoidable damage, you can freely place blame

I dunno. Sometimes half the fun is just seeing the weird stuff in random pugs.

Being bewildered at random tank routes is kinda interesting. I was helping my undergeared friend do a 15 SoA, and the tank just pulled everything on the last platform.

Wasn’t difficult and we killed everything, but it’s weird seeing things from the other side.

I can only imagine the nightmarish scenario of ONLY doing pugs with randoms.

I healed a ton of pug keys this week (14-16s) and way too many groups pulled as if there were no affixes at all this week…

Like, do we really need multiple bolstering stacks on the Shard in HoA… like really? lol

As a healer, I just get frustrated when dps stand in the very-obvious-and-easily-avoided-one-shot-mechanic over and over, then failing the timer by a few seconds, knowing those derps are to blame, but still feeling bad because your job is to keep people alive.

I just let them die, you got two shot within 1.5s?

Probably should pay attention, and I have yet to find anyone who didn’t take my side as the healer. Just be aggressive you hold all the cards or at least most of the good ones.

MDI strats I guess. That triple pull can be done with hero, spear, and big CDs.

Oh I don’t mean the boss platform. I should’ve said the third platform with the Mech boss. Just went straight up the stairs and right into the pack at the fountain.

Wild.
