So, what happens after 60 on the SoD server?

Hey there, new to the classic server system, used to play heavy at game launch on the Doomhammer server (Razorback - Troll Warrior). I play alot of Everquest TLP servers, where the expansions drop every 2-3 months as the game progresses through it’s timeline. How does that work with WoW Classic servers? I see Lich King Classic, no Burning Crusade, and Vanilla Classic as game play options. I’m a little confused here. Do the servers ‘age’ like EQ TLP servers, or is something else going on? I know that SoD is going to be releasing in stages; 25, 40, 50, and 60. I don’t know the timing on them though, just that it’s going to be how it goes.

I would imagine what they did with the first Season – Once the Season has run its course the toons on there get the option to move back to Classic Era

This would be strange considering SoD is a totally separate game mode, with different abilities and items.

I would posit forever SoD servers would make a lot more sense.

That only makes sense if they plan on having another season right after in which those characters will also go to the season servers. They cant just keep doing era after era for every single version of the game.

Also I think OP is asking about at 60… I think (really hope im wrong) it just goes to MC, BWL, AQ, and Naxx? Complete snooze fest there.
There will be SoD haters who claim LOL GAMES DEAD… when 90% of the players quit after prebis of 60… because no duh… MC is awful. its long. Its boring. The game is no longer fun at that point.

If they ever did a fresh era it too would be LOL GAMES DEAD at MC. Its simply a bad raid. Now if they replace MC with a new raid and just put the t1 and MC items in there… THEN we are talking about a pretty cool game. I have limited hope for that.

MC = Dead game. All you need to know.

They’ll likely strip your toon of everything unique to SoD and ship it off to vanilla era. They’ll take away your runes and any new gear not available in era.

MC takes an hour to clear.

It is kind of rude to Era and the players who are there to dump test toons into it.

Everyone is welcome to level on Era, but toons that level with ridiculous abilities have no place in vanilla (in my view). We deserve some degree of authenticity.

I would be pretty disappointed if they allowed xfer to Era. It is basically like letting retail / wotlk / cata xfer to Era.

Ive been in more than enough phase 12 MC GDKPs that prove that theory incredibly wrong.

SoM people got to level at 100% XP and got moved over to vanilla and its been literally no problem.

Thats far more egregious. 100% XP vs better spells. 100% XP wins every time especially when most ppl just get boosted anyways.

It was a huge problem. They also came with a ton of extra consumes from their increased spawns and the proc bonus.

But SoM was similar enough and the best solution would have been to not give them bonus exp in SoM. (which also made SoM way more boring to level in)

Isn’t the whole point of this season to learn and not to repeat past mistakes?

There’s no way. SoD introduces not just new mechanics but new skills, new items and gear. There are way too many new things to be transferrable to Era. SoM was different in that all the new stuff was just game mechanics and other things that wouldn’t be able to “contaminate” Era once the characters transfer over.

it’s not a theory, i’ve actually done it weekly in an hour.

And what happens if MC, BWL and beyond are completely switched up? Then they become new raids.

I dunno, I just don’t feel sympathy for your complaint. I’m not convinced that it would impact your gameplay in a way that isn’t imagined. Once the toons get dumped into era, my expectation would be that 99% of them never log on again. And for the ones that do continue to play, I think it would be difficult for you to distinguish them from someone who simply transferred from a different era server.

Not looking for sympathy just stating my view on what I think is healthy for Era.

The gold sellers and buyers are almost all going to SoD - it is basically designed in a way that attracts that crowd.

Having all that xfer to Era afterwards is not healthy for Era.
Having toons that level in a different game xfer to Era is not healthy for era.

Era isn’t some backup incase the changes make for a game that has no longevity, it is a place which people play and enjoy.

Dump them in retail or cata - I don’t care, but I care about Era and the simple fact is that they are no Era toons - so why would they be allowed to xfer into Era?

Edit: The last thing Era needs is at the end of SoD for a bunch of gold-capped toons to xfer over and destabilize the economy and all the buyers to return with their ‘I need it now!’ mentality.

Devs said in an interview that it was possible they might go ahead and have a separate “era” server just for SoD-enabled characters (assuming they’ll be allowed to keep their SoD-earned things).

Those characters could also be given the option to go to the Classic progression servers (currently in Wrath) since many of the rune abilities come from TBC/Wrath/etc. Guess they’ll listen to what SoD players would like to do.

‘Era’ server? Is this a server that progresses through the timeline of WoW expansion content? Because that’s what I meant by ‘Post-60’.

What do you mean? Now we can finally play the game.

This is what I’ve seen said by Blizz about the future of SoD characters.

MC with completely different abilities to try = fun for many, many people.
