So, what happened to Final Fantasy XIV?

There used to be heated debates on why it is better than WoW and what they should learn from SE. Fan boys used to be posting new FF threads daily.

Pretty much haven’t seen one for a few years. Has the game totally lost its way? It seemed it was trending to compete with wow at one point during Shadowlands.

Funny enough, nothing lol.

Dawntrail is going to end with more content than at any other point in the games history and the battle content has been nothing short of S tier the entire expansion. Goes to show just how much of a stranglehold the story has on the overall game, because you get an expansion with a less than stellar story and everyone loses their minds lol.

So, I can’t speak for others, just on my own perspective:

FF14 is just a ‘different’ kind of MMO. It is more of a visual novel, extremely heavy focus on the story, and gameplay is just a vehicle for that.

WoW, is the opposite- gameplay is first and foremost, story is an afterthought.

During SL, both the gameplay and story were so hated, people wanted to show Blizzard they still wanted to play MMOs but just not WoW.

There was a mass exodus, I was a part of it, and tons of “WoW-fugees” found themselves learning and playing FF14.

Honestly, it was a good move- I learned that an MMO could actually have a good story rivaling even triple-A single-player RPG games.

Right now, FF14 had some hiccups because people didn’t like Wuk-Lamat or whatever one of the new protagonists is, and said the story fell flat, which is pretty bad when your game is known as ‘that story MMO’.

But overall? FF14 is fine. It’s a juggernaut just like WoW is, with a lot of diehard fans that’ll stick around until the servers go down.

I personally came back to WoW, because I love PvP, and FF14’s PvP just doesn’t do it for me.

I actually did enjoy their PvE a ton though, it’s really spectacular.

Both games have a different ‘feel’, and you can’t really describe it to someone who hasn’t experienced it for themselves.

It is like explaining wine to someone that only ever drinks soda, lol.

FF still is the king in my opinion. Systemlands forced a massive tumble for WoW.

DF and TWW are little stepping stones for recovery but Midnight is the chance for WoW to be the queen of the mountain again.

If I had a nickel for every game that was going to kill WoW and show them how it was done, I would have over $.40 by now.

People got Wuk Lamat fatigue lol.

Agree with the other poster that the game is just “different.” FF14’s story and it’s crafting and gathering systems are S-tier. The combat is B-tier, and it only really starts getting good after the base game.

WoW’s combat is S-tier, the story is C-tier and the crafting and gathering systems are a bit fat F.

Ff14 currently has 14k players online on steam.

That game is more dead than classic.

No one uses Steam…

Uhh, Steam isn’t a great place to look at that stuff.

Most people don’t play it on Steam, I don’t. I never did, even though Steam tried to get me to play it on there.

It has its own launcher.

FF14 is very likely still #2 closely behind WoW, for a time during SL it overtook WoW.

Really? What is it you think is so much better, I’m curious as never played ff.

Steam is the #1 game app for pc.

Stop coping.

If you don’t think steam numbers matter.

You are trolling.

Said the troll, lol.

Because clearly that’s fact and isn’t wrong.

Next time don’t out yourself so quickly, you could’ve baited and enraged folks for longer.

That’s your goal, right?

Most people don’t play FF14 through Steam. You can download the game directly from the FF14 website.

I tried it once. Was overwhelmed with all the menus and options right off the bat.

Though I was in a crappy mood if I member correctly. That may have affected my view of it.

After all, this is still a Final Fantasy game, and Square is absolutely a AAA developer. This is just one of the two FF games with an MMO attached to it.

have you seen swtor?

agent story beats 14s story alone

The cope.

Let’s go check twitch then.

Surely the # of people viewing a game = interest?

There are currently 3k viewers for ff14 vs wow at 44k and #7 on the top of twitch charts and there is legit nothing even going on in wow.

I don’t ever want to hear a ff14 player compare wow to it.
