eh it’s closer to like 65% but yeah it sucks. I went mining/engineering on my shaman specifically for this quest and it still sucked
you’re probably better off buying the shredder autosalvage units in bulk and gambling on the rng, rather than buying the turbochargers outright. last I looked on my server, the units were going for less than half the price of the turbochargers, so even at a 50% success rate you’re still saving some money
on the plus side, I’m flying to ratchet right now to get my dual wield specialization rune, so I can finally put this damned grind behind me…
It’s lazy to not want to be self-masochistic when other runes of signficantly more power are easier to get with significantly less investment than other classes?
1 Heavy Leather
1 Medium Leather
3 Copper Ore
3 Tin Ore
3 Wool Cloth
For a single Shredder Autosalvage Unit. And you need 16 Turbochargers, which have a non-insignificant chance to not drop, so even lowballing let’s say you can get by with 25, that’s
25 Heavy Leather
25 Medium Leather
75 Copper Ore
75 Tin Ore
75 Wool Cloth
An unreasonable amount of mats? No, but absolutely not “miniscule”, especially considering you will have to go to the auction house for at least some of the materials due to requiring both skinning and mining items. And again, a droprate that could possibly be as low as 50%, so even those 25 may not be enough
Then consider that you also have to go through the Deadmines to actually get the pattern to make the Turbochargers, certainly an out-of-the-way dungeon for Horde (which is an important factor due to Shamans having their Dual Wield Specialization locked behind this grind)
And on top of all this, remember that this is only one of three grinds, with the other two requiring high level murlocs with low drop rates that take a lot of resources to solo farm, and high level elite dark iron dwarves that realistically can’t be farmed solo by someone not already farming BFD
… Meanwhile, I can just kill some random rare in Redridge on a level 3 paladin in a group, get avenger’s shield, and pretty much chunk everything to half-health (I did this, btw).
Certainly comparable to… 15% damage without a pet.
Oh, or a better comparison. Just group with a friend, kill an NPC, and get 20% bonus stats and a 10% stat aura for your friends.
My favorite part about the ratchet “quests” is how condescending and slapped together the NPC is.
'll need some of the Venture Company’s Shredder Turbochargers They’re tightly coupled to the shredder systems, so you’ll need special equipment to salvage them.
No, I don’t have that equipment.
I’ll need some Dark Iron Ordinance. Where are you going to find Dark Iron dwarves? That’s your problem!
I’m going to need fish oil and a lot of it!
I love the totally not veiled contempt for the playerbase.
Earned is one thing, a boring rng grind that you can skip by shelling out a bunch of gold can hardly be called earning anything.
