I really hope they don’t break Spartan UI. I really liked the look vs default UI plus it’s easier to set up 182 hot keys vs about 2 dozens with default UI
Doesn’t matter… they have already said several times since they started this process as well that addins that modify and improve upon the new tools they create will be allowed still. They know their version will suck in comparison to the addons.
Their goal is to remove the perceived requirement to have these addons by providing the basic tools they offer built in to the game. In addition to breaking functions that allow certain addons to completely trivialize what is supposed to be difficult content.
So I can make a Weak Aura 2.0 that modifies the Cooldown manager and have it customise to show priority spells based on a DPS rotation that tracks all the enemies and what is going on and that’s OK? Doubt it.
As much as they say this or that, chances are they are going to do something different to what we are all thinking, and even if they are going to be spot on with what they are saying and doing it doesn’t change the fact that they suck at building a UI.
I have for many years tried to use the default UI, and by many I mean since back in BFA days I have been on and off trying to make it work, but they just suck at making it useable once you start getting into certain difficulty content.
My point does indeed matter. I know exactly what they’ve stated and I’m not arguing about their design philosophy or how many people on this forum are consistently wrong because they didn’t watch the video.
But that’s irrelevant to the point I made: Blizz sucks at making default versions of addons.
As I understand it, the only thing proposed is to try to eliminate the need for so many add ons especially those which confer an advantage e.g. predict boss move, other players’ actions etc. Elvui for example should be fine throughout any of these changes. Elvui is an example of an alternative user interface that allows one to customize how the screen looks and feels without altering combat capability per se. Combat addons, on the whole, are not part of the UI but are tools that should not be needed by the average player.
I have no issue in Blizz replacing combat add ons but I would have a real problem if Elvui was banned as the current UI is extremely primitive and intrusive.
Thank you…I see my lack of patience for watching videos (even at 1.5x) has left me ill-informed.
I kind of thought the new move for a Blizz UI was to set everything up for console and/or mobile play in the not so distant future…not to make it difficult to get the PC game UI you want. Too much wishful thinking on my part I guess.
See you think that and try to justify that, but ElvUI can do a lot that helps with combat, like what I ran into where the default UI debuff tracker is crap.
With ElvUI I can customise exactly which spells I want to track, in what order, how they are displayed, where they sit on my screen, have said persons unit frame flash in a way to show me that they have a debuff that needs to be removed as a priority.
And that’s just one example, but even just that one example, this alters combat abilities because it allows players to simply have their screen flash in a certain way when there is a spell they can use, they don’t need to think about it once they have it setup.
Bear in mind, again, I have no idea how WA works.
but it seems to me it pulls various data from the game and provides that info to the player.
If they cut part of it that they dont want causing escalation again in the future, it seems to me that other things WA does would still be functional.
But again, I have no clue how WA actually works…maybe it is a do or die thing for all I know.
The reason we use addons is that Blizzard is unable to produce a useful and beautiful UI. My fear is that Blizzard will continue to be unable to produce a useful and beautiful UI. The fear would be unfounded if they let us continue to use all our current addons while they proved they could pull it off. Of course, they will undoubtedly pull the rug out from under players while they work on it. This would be a significant hit to the playerbase, precisely what we don’t want or need. Please don’t improve the game worse.
My only point is that that part you say might need to be cut out, MIGHT affect things that normal people use in ways that we don’t know right now, and there will be collateral damage.
Possibly. This IS Ion we’re talking about lol.
I certainly understand the lack of faith in the man at this point given the history here of bad decisions and doubling down on them so many times.
yeah, probably.
Hopefully the WA maker can …likely will…accomodate as best as possible when the changes do come. Sounds like WA does a lot more than just combat and mechanic related helps.
