So straight up, is Tyrande faking that accent?

As far as I am aware she is the only night elf, in the whole of night elven society, that speaks with such an accent. Not even her hubby speaks with any kind of strange dialect and he’s more or less around the same age as her, nor does Illidan or any other Nelf of her generation.

For that matter, not even the Night Elf offshoot races like the Nightborne or the Naga speak with such accents; I don’t hear Azshara busting out the troll speak, do you?

Hell, let’s take this even further no elf in general speaks with such an accent. From the Sin’dorei, to the Quel’dorei, to the Ren’dorei. They all speak with either quasi-british and/or American accents.

So, is Tyrande a sham?

Are her speech patterns just a put-on? Is she the equivalent of a Night elf hipster?

BONUS: Am I the only one that belives night elves should be speaking in faux-Celtic accents?

Accents aren’t canon lol
I think there’s like 3 ways of saying Sin’dorei too.

Her accent is awful.

It’s also extremely out of place, which is what prompted my post.

That accent is the reason why Azshara wanted to cleanse the lowborn from Azeroth.

Her accent is awesome wtf. Biggest haters on Azeroth.

Are you just saying that because you’re a troll?

That aside, I didn’t say it was necessarily bad just that it stands out as she is the only one of her race who has it.

I’m saying it cause I love her accent and found the hate it got weird. It’s sexy. (Can I say sexy?). Idk how exactly it’s out of place, or any more out of place than any of the other random accents and ways other characters talk. I think only consistent accents are the ones Trolls have between their npc and lore characters.

I think that prolly has some thing to do with it too.

And rightfully so.

How is it at all racism? Am I hating or saying an entire race is inferior for finding someone’s out of place accent odd? Did I even say the accent is bad?

People really need to take a look at the actual definition of racism instead of using one’s own personal definition of that word.

No but others in the thread basically do and I have seen it before.

So?

That still isn’t racism, either. By the way.

Dude’s got a point. It doesn’t make a ton of sense that this one Night Elf has a really distinct Romani accent. How did she acquire it?

Gamers just don’t like any accent unless it is European centric or weeaboo. Smh.

Since we are on the subject of prejudices, this right here sounds pretty close.

Sounds like you’re painting with quite a large brush there, bromigo.

Are you pulling a reverse racism on me? You realize I never called you racist. I just said if I had to guess why the specific dislike for Tyrande’s accent is always spoken of is partially probably due to racism. What other reasons would you give if it isn’t related to anything racial?

Whoa, calm down there, bro.

I’m doing nothing of the sort. I’m just saying, if you are so quick to point that accusatory finger at people one should be careful because it can easily swing right around back at you.

Considering one’s spoken accent has nothing to do with genetics, but rather learned behavior due to one’s environment that can and does change over time, is probably a good reason to decouple a spoken accent from one’s race.

Romani? It didn’t really sound like a Romani accent to me at all. I was thinking more Jamaican myself, and a badly done imitation of one as well.

I’ve never had a problem with the accent itself. Tyrande sounds just fine. And honestly it seems to me that people blow out of proportion just how overt it is; she’s just always sounded like…Tyrande to me.

It’s just a little bizarre context-wise that nary a single other night elf ever speaks that way. Aggra has the same thing; her voice in and of itself is no problem at all, and would make perfect story-sense if it turned out to be specific to a certain orcish clan or something. Just as Tyrande’s would make sense if it had turned out to be the way night elves of Suramar in particular spoke (with Suramar being Tyrande’s homeland and all.) But as far as we’ve seen Aggra and Tyrande are just for some reason these isolated cases of being the only individuals of their respective races who speak the way they each speak.

Neither of them actually sound bad as far as I’m concerned. It just feels to me like it’d make a lot more sense in-universe if we ran into a few NE and orc questgivers from time to time who sound more like them.

Things that don’t make sense and are never explained, like random accents, take you out of the story. They are bad writing.

If you were in a world where Night Elves were a thing and then you met Tyrande, you’d be wondering, “What’s with the accent?”

Or imagine a film set in, I dunno, London, where one character has a really strong French accent. But she’s not from France, it’s a plot point that she grew up in London, and the accent is never explained. You would think that was a really weird acting and directing choice.
