Nice, just had Lupine Lattice drop, I looked up which mounts I can make from this - have the other reagents and then saw the schematic for the Heartbond Lupine has a drop rate of 1.7% from a daily kill. Hilarious! Almost as funny as the mounts that require Unalloyed Bronze Ignot, which is not available in the game yet. Pretty much every lattice that I have now can only be used after rare drops or something. Instead of making up idotic new “systems”, how about returning back to the straight forward “good luck with your daily elite kill” mount drop?
Edit: Yes, I realize the Schematic drop is not limited to daily - and I got it after 5 kills. Still, the system ties you down to being very active in the zone, if you’re a mount and/or pet collector, more than ever really.

I kinda like the new system except it needs more in-game guidance. The system simply doesn’t work without WoWhead telling you where to go to find the stuff you need. The game is no help.
And the mob that drops the Heartbond Lupine schematic is not a bad farm. Took me about 8 minutes for it to drop.

Uh, you can farm the schematic for the Heartbond Lupine to your heart’s content. Maw-Frenzied Lupine has a 1 minute respawn timer and you can keep killing him until you get the schematic. I got mine after about 10-15 kills. It’s one of the easiest mounts to obtain the materials for.

Going to be excessively cumbersome in the future.
Imagine trying to get these mounts and pets two expansions from now having never been here spending a year grinding away for motes.

It’s definitely an interesting way to do things, keeps it fresh. Would have been awful if it was just a reskinned Korthia with ‘must kill’ rares every day for mounts. Spices it up with the random drops + rare looted items. You’re able to target one rare/chest/clickable, get the blue item you need, go farm the lattice (if you don’t have it) and then wrap up with Genesis Motes if you’re short. Much more forgiving than just camping Keeper’s Respite just waiting for Konthrogz to emote (or whichever rare you’re trying to get the mount from).
I’ve made four Protoform Synthesis mounts thus far. The lattice farming isn’t terrible, I’ve been able to target and loot each specific lattice I’ve needed within 1-2 hours of starting the farm. Hardest one was just the snails because there is such a small amount of them to loot from, but even that only took 1h30m.
The biggest thing here is the farm for the Genesis Motes. As it stands right now, people are just standing in front of one of the portals in the Genesis Fields, tagging mobs and letting the NPCs assist in killing them. This, coupled with instant respawns, means you can farm 800-1000 motes an hour by joining a group in the finder. This completely trivializes this aspect of the system and is nauseatingly boring - take it from someone who did a similar farm for dozens of hours in Tanaan Jungle for the Apexis rewards in WoD and actively participated in Sentinax farms in Legion. It’s simply just bad design and unfun. For a Blizzard-relevant metric, this entices people to spend less time in game doing cool stuff and just joining a farm group semi-afk for a day or two, actually reducing their DAUs over time. Shaves weeks off the patch longevity for collectors, most avid ones will be done with the Protoform Synthesis mount farm by the end of March/April. Collectors are what keeps this game alive after the hype of the seasonal content (raid/m+/pvp) has waned. If we go, there will be no one left.
Either nerf these instant respawn farms or reduce the amount of Genesis Motes needed to craft to allow solo players/non grinders to be able to craft these without spending 8-9 hours mindlessly clicking an instantly respawning mob. I think bringing the requirements down to 300 Genesis Motes for the most expensive (from 500) would actually go a long way to improving this system.
Either way, it’s a breath of fresh air and shows that Blizzard is interested in shaking up the experience for collectors and casuals. ZM has been fantastic so far, if a bit bereft of meaningful content past the first few weeks of farming.

Oh yeah, because that never had people complaining!

Was going to post this myself.
The drop rate looks low because the data includes people who hadn’t unlocked the protoform forge, yet.

It isn’t daily, you can farm it until you get it.
To the point, I much prefer this method given I can visually see what I’m working towards vs. hoping for something to drop and never knowing when I’ll get it.

It only drops for characters that have Protoform Synthesis unlocked. If you’re going to whine about percentages, you should probably at least know how they work. I literally just got this earlier today, and it only took a handful of respawns of the mob to get it. Conveniently, it respawned every time by Mindbender came off cd…
The real grind is for those damn Genesis Motes.

Yes! It would have been great if there were clickable items in the Forges that pointed out, or at least gave a clue, on where or what dropped materials. (But would probably still have to go to WoWhead for TomTom coordinations to the mob.)

I wouldn’t be surprised if they simply expected people to use those resources to find that stuff at this point, given how ubiquitous they are.
If not for the Internet and people working to share info, you know there’d be a PRIMA Game Guide to help you out.

Man…now you’re making me miss the FF7 guide I had when I was a kid. No idea where that thing ran off to.

They heard how some people wanted targeted stuff… they know this patch is here for a long time… and they are gonna see how well received this idea and system is. Tack on Blizzard’s typical low drop rate… what they don’t know is analytics don’t necessarily display what was enjoyable to do and what people just did just for reasons [boredom or something to do but not necessarily enjoyable].
Hate to see what they come up with in 10.0 tho.
This synthesis system is not for me.

Lattices are not account or soul bound, btw. Can buy & sell on the AH. Maybe they figured everyone would just buy them there.
Well I am glad I haven’t been back to that zone since my initial visit.
It’s honestly not that hard. I’ve gotten four mounts so far with limited grinding. Heck I took a few guildies out and one skinned everything while we farming and we just talked about nothing and had fun. It was really nice. EVEN THEN doing dailies on about 4 toons nets me around 100-150 motes depending on the dailies without even trying. It’s all about how much effort you want to put in.
Welcome to world of grindcraft.
