So, once we kill N'zoth. Is that it? Finally?

Will we finally be done with this Old God nonsense? Can we finally put it to rest? No more old gods? Dead and buried aye?

I’ve never been much for the Lovecraftian Mythos, I kinda just find it really overblown, and over hyped. The WoW old gods are just really bad knock offs of the Lovecraftian ones, which makes it even worse.

They are really tired at this point, and it’s really annoying that it feels like everytime we turn around, everything just points back to “Oh look, it’s an old god influence, it was so-and-so the whole time.”

Also this supposed 4d chess old god’s supposedly do, before being marched upon and slaughtered weekly is pretty silly. Most of these plots are pretty bloody obvious, and it’s only forced narrative stupidity that leads to any of them actually working.

Maybe I’m just rambling, but I’ll be really happy once we can move away from this Death God, Old God, Alliance vs Horde, trope that has been beaten to death.

Just when the legion finally fell and I thought maybe we could get something fresh and new… nope. Old gods again. Whoo… it’s like a back and forth, Force PvP, Old gods, Trolls, Legion, PvP, Trolls, Legion, Old gods, By the way TROLLS.

Last time we had something relatively near new was back in Mists of Pandaria, and technically those weren’t new, because the old gods managed to slip back into that as well.

And now it seems like we’re just going to be re-hashing Wrath?

Can we just do something new for once? have an expansion not focused on something we’ve done 3-5 times already?

All I want is a new expansion, with new ideas, that don’t include any of the following as a Major Plot point:

Trolls
Old Gods
Orcs
Legion
Undead
Faction Wars
Random main character going full blown evil villan

These seven ideas have been re-hashed, over and over and over again at this point. I feel almost zero inclination to even follow the next expansion if we are re-hashing Wrath, except to hopefully see Sylvanas permanently dead with no stupid dues-ex machina to bring her back.

There are a lot of Old Gods out there in the Great Dark that need to be destroyed. I never get tired of killing them TBH.

I personally welcome our new tentacle overlords.

If not the Old Gods, then who?

Haven’t you figured out yet that WoW is a soap opera? No one dies permanently. They were just taking a shower the whole last expansion.

Some of us weren’t here for the other stuff so feel free to not play the expansion.

Anything that isn’t Alliance vs Horde, Trolls, Legion, Undead, or Old Gods.

Like… really seriously… just something new?

At this point I’m actually thinking about not.

We still have to deal with their masters.

Nope.

There are more where N’zoth came from, and the Void Lords won’t just give up on eating the universe.

There’s always the possibility of a new Old God falling from the sky, or we discover another World Soul with Old Gods almost taking it and we have to prevent them from turning the World Soul into a Void Titan, etc etc.

I detect a sinister plot between the old gods, Draenai and void elves.

Those creepy tentacle guys must hang together!

The only “new” thing they’re capable of doing is corrupting existing characters.

Right now we cannot kill an old god with out fatally wounding Azeroth. We can only imprison them. For instance we did not kill Yogg. He was just put back into slumber. He became active again in Legion.

Maybe if they actually branched out and did something different they wouldnt’ feel compelled to shunt existing characters into directions that make no sense to try to pull off some sort of sudden “Surprise” thing, to keep things interesting because guess what we’re fighting off yet another troll empire, but it’s okay, this time Tyrande is super evil now cause something something else happened… and she’s doing bad stuff… so totally not just a troll rehash guys, promise. it’s new.

Not likely at all.
The void lords have been set up as the greater scope foe that the Legion was fighting, and between that and all the new issues with death and whatnot (and remember, in Wrath, there was old god influence there too), chances are that the next expansion will be void focused, or death focused. Either way, enjoy having to deal with more old god shenanigans until that whole void lord thing is dealt with.

One can not appreciate insanity without first accepting it. We are all insane in some way, shape, or form. Those who deny this are mere ignorants, unfit to judge anything since they can not even judge themselves.

But as a whole, World of Warcraft as a franchise is mostly drawn from other sources of inspiration. Lord of the Rings and Lovecraft being the obvious ones. But there are also references to different religions, events, and governments throughout history. The game is not its own, but a re-imagining of other works in blizzards eyes.

So asking for something new from this company is like asking an artist who specializes in copying or remodeling pieces to create something of their own without inspiration from said pieces. Or asking an Italian chef to cook up Danish dishes.

Oh you sweet summer child. You really think this will be the end of old gods? /giggle :octopus:

I agree with what you’re saying completely but I think it’s best to just not expect a lot out of them.

They’ve established the lore for themselves and we’ve outgrown a lot of enemies at this point. I don’t think any unknown variables are left in this universe outside of the legion and the void and the old gods. It’s all we got at this point, outside of a complete reset.

There’s bound to be some undiscovered landmass that surprise surprise will be suffering from some Old God the Titans locked up, but not in away to effect Azeroth that we have to go and deal with.
