It is most certainly possible to authenticate via a landline. I don’t know if Blizzard will use it, though. I have several accounts that can do it. The system just rings your phone and then you either answer it and push any key button or it tells you a code that you type in.
It’s not the physical key fob authenticator going away .THough a lot of them are probably dying out by now. They are no longer supporting the mobile authenticator app and are now migrating it to the main Battle.net mobile app which has the mobile forums

If you don’t tell anyone your account information then nobody is going to hack in unless they literally blow open Blizzard account databases somehow and steal everything.
