a little. i mean. it’s a game. play it or don’t.
also, you came to the forums to tell everyone why you’re quitting -> which screams 1 of 2 things:
- I dont really want to quit, convince me to stay
- I’m not happy so neither should you, here’s why

It’s the breaking Dire Maul out of phase 2 to release it earlier than Blizzard planned that’s at issue - not the lack of a previously defined date or assumption what that would be.
This is where differing opinions come into play. I don’t agree that his reasoning is sound.
His reasoning, to me, is hinged heavily on him having been that very person in vanilla who would have chewed up content and been champing at the bit for more.
On the one hand, I’m not quitting like Mogar. I want to enjoy WOW Classic as long as I can, not leave now based on something that may or may not happen over the next couple years based on this one early red flag.
On the other hand, if Blizzard changed their own internally planned schedule just to appease people who are content churning as fast as they can, what happens when those people finish Naxx and active player numbers drop? Ion’s answer in Retail is obvious, and I hope and pray it never touches WOW Classic.
After all, it is the Plusser siren song that everyone will quit and WOW Classic will die if new content isn’t added. If that’s the only voice Ion hears because it echoes his own sentiment, where does WOW Classic wind up for people who don’t hit 60 until somewhere in Phase 3 or Phase 4, are barely getting into MC and Ony when Phase 6 releases?
Mostly yes, but a lot of those beliefs and assumptions are built around many things Blizzard has said and done over the last decade. I know I don’t trust Blizzard completely any more. In fact, I see most of their statements as deliberate evasion, omission and obfuscation outside of explicitly stated release dates.
I understand Mogar’s skepticism. The difference for me is simply that, for now, this is enough of the game I want to play to wear blinders and enjoy the experience. My breakpoint is different.
Good to see with all the China drama going on that it’s Dire Maul that has you on edge. At least you have your priorities straight.
Can someone summarize that novel for me?
While worrisome I think that this would be more of a “strike one” or “red flag” than quit the game entirely problem.
You seem to lack reading comprehension?
But who said phase two isn’t beginning now? Just because all servers aren’t down to one layer doesn’t change that we’re almost all the way there nor mean they’re not starting it
I disagree. They’ve been very, very transparent and honest about the game and what they’re going to do. They’ve communicated with us every step of the way, far more than can be expected from a game developer. The handholding required by many people on this forum is just…insane. Not saying that’s you, but it’s just unreal.
It winds up in the same place when people were not hitting 60 before content was release in vanilla as well
Content releases don’t stop because people level slowly or don’t start til mid-classic lifespan, same as vanilla. I don’t really see DM being released as a sign of impending doom. It was originally supposed to be included in launch. Phase two is apparently starting next week.
And you? You’re just unintelligent. The ban was for violating a rule Blizzard set forth before the tournament began. Get over it. They did the right thing by following their ruleset. You do know if he said the opposite thing he would’ve been handed the same ban right? You people are ridiculous. This topic doesn’t belong on these forums either.
TL;DR…
Can I have your stuff?
You want retail style NOW NOW NOW content rollout. YOU are the retail player. Your mentality is cancer.
He was wondering why people come to the forums when what they really want is twitter
PS you’d know if this was true if you bothered to read
Not trying to throw shade here but, yes you are over-reacting, yes you are being silly and that whole rant was a bit un-sufferable.
Nothing can be like it was, as a community and as individuals we have changed. We all remember the game being hard and slow when the fact it is, it never was, we just didn’t know what we were doing. I have yet to wipe in a dungeon, leveling for all my classes is pretty easy and enjoyable. Everything will go quicker.
Also, since the release schedule has 0 impact on you, this seems like an interesting hill to die on, but you do you.
You have no idea who Mogar is. He was one of the first on the forum after the announcement, well before this new format.
Mogar was really pumped for Classic WoW. As Gygen, we didn’t always agree but Mogar was passionate about Classic WoW. To see him go is unfortunate.
I have taken a brief break from Classic for my own reasons, but Mogar is 100% correct. Blizzard pushing up Dire Maul so quick is very concerning.
Can I has your stuff?
I agree. I even called it a red flag in the next reply, because yeah, Dire Maul release timing means nothing to me. But for Mogar it happens to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Which in vanilla terms was TBC being released and hitting 60 turning into a mere waypoint to 70, and Azeroth 58-60 content dropping of many people’s radar.
If WOW Classic stops with Phase 6, we’re golden. Being slow to level or starting later won’t ever see the game change to something non-vanilla.
If WOW Classic sees all the content churners leave or badger Blizzard on the forums for added content, and Blizzard responds by changing WOW Classic in a non-authentic non-vanilla manner, we’re not golden. WOW Classic ceases to be a permanently available recreation of vanilla, the dream of legacy realms where expansions and new content do not upend the existing game.
You wrote a lot of words, and even formatted them into nice little paragraphs. Guess what, I didn’t read any of it. I thought you should know.
“Small handful”
“The 5%”
“The 1%”
Please show me where you are getting these absolute truths of the exact playerbase this is “catering” to?
“…If WOW Classic stops with Phase 6, we’re golden…”
I hope they give you that, then allow others to move on to TBC and Wrath servers that they roll out.
I am so shocked at the amount of people crying on here over and over… If you dont want to play then dont play. Your reasoning sounds kind of dumb but whatever
Ion. Listen to him in the content update video.
“We’ve also heard from many of you that you are ready for something new to sink your teeth into. And so, while we originally had this Phase 2 plan that was going to be Dire Maul dungeon, World Bosses, and the honor system for PvP, I’m happy to announce that we’re going to break Dire Maul out separately and get it out there as soon as possible.”
…
“Of course, we still have the honor system and World Bosses just around the corner after that …” (at which point he says he’ll share exact information when they have it)
The Phase 2 stuff was previously hinged on getting all realms locked to one layer (no layering when World Bosses are released), though oddly enough in the pinned Layering thread they hedged more and weren’t that absolute about getting the last few realms not layered.
EDIT: Just added the quote thing so it is easier to separate out.
Yes, this is the reason right now why you should stop playing.
Jesus people, how sheltered are some of you.
