You beat me to it. There’s a good portion of the playerbase that doesn’t even know what the game is like without Dire Maul.
In the US, Dire Maul arrived about 3 and a half months after the game released, so even there more players than not that have experienced the game without this dungeon’s presence.
Trying to claim that this somehow ruins Classic or that they’re catering to only a minority is disingenuous at best. It was a minority of the Vanilla playerbase that was affected by Dire Maul’s release in the first place.
What does the release schedule have to to with anyone’s pace of play? Blizzard could have released all content at launch or released each phase exactly one year apart and there would be people still behind the curve and people who are so gogoGO that they’ve burned through everything quickly.
If you want to take your time absolutely nothing is stopping you.
What an insanely pointless thing to quit over. Why didn’t you quit over Maraudon being in at release? Because that has about as much of an impact as Dire Maul.
Another 5man dungeon with some decent blues for certain specs! Oh, my god, this game is ruined because my pre-raid bis list has 1 or 2 items replaced! Now I only need to run scholo 20 times to get 2 items instead of 30 times to get 3 items, and have to instead spice it up with another dungeon!
I don’t know if it’s anything you’d consider, but maybe check back in a couple years to see if it went where you expected, or if by some chance the early release of Dire Maul and letting the go-go-go crowd get-get-gone has left a WOW Classic that remains what you were hoping for.
LOL… that’s what’s great about the forums. Good entertainment at work. Get home and don’t give af about reading the forums cuz you’re too busy playing classic.
Boo hoo… now get out of my way I gotta go to DM to get my mage water quest done.
I don’t expect I will reach 60 before my 60th birthday in late November. But I am a happy-go-lucky character who just decides to jump continents for some new questing or just a change in mobs to kill. A few of my levels recently have been pure grinding. Killing stags and bears and skinning them.
Meh, it should have been there from the beginning, and to keep it out longer just screws over warlocks who want their epic mount.
Make sense to release it sooner than later based on the dread steed alone.
I don’t get it man, I think you are making the wrong decision.
When you play the game are you having fun? If yes then why let these other outside decisions affect that?
I think if they were releasing p2 or BWL already then you would have a worthwhile complaint, but DM releasing now is plenty authentic. If nothing else just come back after p6 is released so you won’t have any more of this to worry about.
Why are these “stop and smell the roses” types always the ones who are focusing on other players and what they’re doing? Shouldn’t you be thinking about the journey or something instead of what the more hardcore players are doing at endgame?
In the midst of all these people “quitting,” (we all know they aren’t quitting and they’ll be back in like 2 days) can someone please tell me where Blizzard said Dire Maul wouldn’t come out a month and a half after launch? Or when phase 2 would actually start?
Since everyone seems to be believing they’re “pandering to the 1% of nolifers,” I sincerely want to know. I searched for it but I could not find it.
I’m assuming because OP believed it would be months on months, and his personal belief, with no shred of evidence to substantiate it, was not correct, he’s quitting. But I could be wrong or missed something somewhere, which is why I ask.
Dire Maul was listed as part of Phase 2 (along with Kazzak and Azuregos). One of the criteria for Phase 2 is zero layering (all realms locked to a single layer).
The Layering announcement and change in the realm list shows us there are still a lot of realms with populations too high to reduce to a single layer. That’s not likely to magically change in one week.
Ion’s content update announcement specifically said they’re adding Dire Maul BEFORE their planned Phase 2, thus early by their own internal plans - not just player expectations.
Most players who had the idea of “months” were basing that on original vanilla patches. Dire Maul was added about 4 months after the original release of WOW.
The OP’s issue is not so much that Dire Maul is being released early but the loose reasoning given by Ion - that there are a small number of people with Sulfuras, that MC has been cleared several times. The game is being advanced based on the rush mentality of the fastest content chewers. That principle of catering to the tiny few has the risk of becoming an ongoing thing, and it is most certainly how Ion’s influence on Retail is reflected.
I get what you’re saying, but nowhere did they post a specific date that phase 2 would be starting nor did they say Dire Maul wouldn’t be released a month and a half in. People’s assumptions based on what happened during vanilla are just that - their own assumptions: this is not vanila.
And Ion’s reasoning is sound. Many people don’t know what life’s like without DM. It’s not like another raid is being released, it’s not like you should entirely skip MC or Ony because DM is coming out. You can, but you won’t be fully geared if you do. It honestly shouldn’t have much effect on people playing, which I’m sure was another reason they decided to implement it. I can see how he’d think it could become precedent to release content before he thinks it should be, but again nowhere is there a set release date for anything.
So, in reality, it is OP’s own beliefs, assumptions, and choice that are causing him to quit, not Blizzard.
Well Mogar think of the bright side, at least you didint have to deal with Vanilla WOW! If you find classic so unacceptable you wouldn’t have last a week in Vanilla.
Why type up this book like some kind of romantic novel to wow just say you hate blizzard for releasing a dungeon early because people are level 60 ten times faster than in the past and that your warped mental believes we should wait for everything multiple more months than necessary just to meet your agenda. So stupid this stance makes zero sense to me
