So Let's Say Classic Is Crazy Successful

Let’s say Classic comes out and has a record for returning players; will Blizzard start production on a different line of World of Warcraft? Players obviously miss the old talent system, the old sense of server identity, and many other old systems. What if we began to see Blizzard moving away from this version of retail back to the direction of BC/LK expansions that improved systems rather than revamping them? Could we actually see a completely different timeline of this game? Could we see a company go in a true new direction by actually going backwards toward old designs?

No. They’re not going to compete with themselves.

There is an entire forum dedicated to the discussion of classic and it’s success. Bring it there.

Even if its crazy successful it wont be for long with no updates ever. It may be great at first but it will get old eventually.

I don’t think it’ll be successful. A lot of the problems in BfA are worse in classic.

If Blizzard did a Wrath server then I could see that being popular.

Best idea ever

I think what is going to happen is people who are playing BFA that never played Classic are not going to enjoy it because they will notice how it is completely different on how you played compared to right now. When they said you think you want it, but you don’t. They were most likely referring to all those changes they made from Classic to now and they won’t want to go back to it again.

didnt blizzard already state that if vanilla is a huge success that they would give it expansions and even take the story in a different direction than wow originally went

I havent seen this said anywhere myself but if they introduce a proggresion server I would leave retail behind and never look back… Err forward… you know what i mean

His question wasn’t about Classic, it was about the direction current WoW might take if Classic is a big hit.

Which makes it about Classic, and as such should be posted in that forum.

Its equally about classic and retail.

You think current blizzard has even remotely the same vision as old blizzard?

Not even close.

No. Current WoW will continue on its merry way until there are no more players logging in to it. (I don’t have a crystal ball, and my ouija board keeps trying to summon my ex-, so don’t ask me when that might happen.) Best case scenario for Classic:WoW is that it would be followed up with Classic:TBC and Classic:WotLK, with all three “classics” being stand-alones with the ability to copy a character upward as each is released.

Classic:WoW (nor any future re-releases of other xpacs) will compete with current WoW. There are three “factions” in the player-base:

  1. Those who like current WoW and see no reason to relive the original game;
  2. Those who like Classic:WoW and will abandon current WoW; and,
  3. Those who will play both.

Dif’rent strokes for dif’rent folks. (And so on and so on and scooby dooby dooby Oooo … sha sha.)

I think Classic WoW will see a very huge initial boom, but past that it’s not quite clear.

I don’t see them expanding on it if it does become succeful nor would I want them to. They’re already making changes to classic that aren’t wanted. We want to keep the idiots responsible for WoD - BFA as far away as possible.

I’d say it was more likely they would do something along the lines of the pristine servers they talked about previously.

Whats pristine servers?

Problem is, if Classic is super successful, which i have no doubt that it will be to some degree, where do they go?

If they start adding expansions it won’t be classic any more.

I suppose they could do it without adding all the bells and whistles that came with previous expansions, like extra races, classes, mounts etc.

No sharding, no cross server, no group finder, no LFR, and all about community.
