So Let Me Get this Straight

Demo has one of, if not, the longest setup times for bursting as of right now and we don’t even get rewarded for it? Balance, WW, and Shadow can all pop their cd at the start and are top 4 specs, this doesn’t seem very fair…

Haha! That’s because it isn’t!

yeah, makes more sense if this was about affliction- you know, the melt spec… not “hard” hitting demons and their master.

Affliction is fine, it is hitting top 5 in the charts according to WoWhead.

Ah but your post could apply to Aff as well, barring the not being rewarded part. Aff also has a long ramp up time, they also have like 10x the amount of buttons to press before they can do damage. Just once they get going they do a lot of damage

i never said it wasn’t - only that this should be reversed in a more common sense approach.

IDK about 10x the buttons, I think all the lock specs have about the same buttons depending on talents. You know what, I just realized that the top specs all have dots…

Except for WW

Yee we are designed as a st burst cannon without the boom. I mean we get a boom but it’s not tuned amazingly. A good amount of demos issues lie in raw numbers.

Aff’s set up: Agony, UA, Corr, Siphon Life, Phantom, Soul Rot, SB, SB, SB, Dark Soul, Dark Glare (set up ends), MRx5. Seven globals, three 2 second casts. 16.5 seconds (adjust for Haste and lust). This can’t be pre-cast, but can be shortened in raid giving Aff some real burst so long as it doesn’t need to switch.

Demo set up: (pre-cast) Demonbolt, Vilefiend, Felguard, Dreadstalkers, SB, SB, SB, SB, HoG, SB, HoG, Tyrant. Ignoring the precast, eight 2 second casts, two 1.5 second casts, one global. 20.5 seconds (adjust for Haste and lust). Vilefiend and Dreadstalkers should really just be globals and Tyrant should be a 1.5 second cast at most, probably also global considering how weak it is in PvP. Unlike Aff, you don’t always have your “basic dots” on the targets, so you can’t reliably turn on your burst without careful planning ahead and small hiccups cause huge DPS losses. You can target swap more readily, but you have to wait on your pets to retarget. You also have very few globals, so movement screws you hard.

WTF is actually the point of Demo? They really have the worst of everything for very little payoff.

with Aff, and I suspect Demo but I don’t know the weight of all the options, it’s really the variability of buttons which bothers me. You can go from 5 to more than 10 depending on content and set-ups. Hard on the muscle memory.

well said i agree 100%

minor nitpick.

Its 5 globals (agony, cor, siphon life, dps cooldowns, phantom)

8 1.5 second casts (UA, Soul Rot, haunt, MR x 5)

Which adds up to 19.5 seconds…plus however long it takes to get 2 ticks of drain soul, so about 21 seconds.

Also, the burst from both is…about the same. the big difference is aff can burst every minute, demo is every 1.5 minutes.

Because Blizzard wants everyone to re-roll to classes that they want you to play so that they can force you to re-roll again in 4 or 5 months, because this keeps the game alive though artificial BS. Not because its actually good.

More important why is it that warlocks need to setups this damn long while other specs can just willy nilly press a few buttons that are instants and bang there up there with high dps meters.

That damned tyrant cool down should be doing its own optimal damage. I never understood why in hell do other specs get to do damage as soon as they pop their offensive cds but demo nope you have to waste two CD slots in order to do optimal especially when the set up requires so much casting.

The devs have this weird hrd on for certain caster specs requiring hard casting long setups and then the pay off at the end isn’t that great.

Then they want update other specs with high fast casting and decide to keep others in oudated caster mechanics from the past.

Our toolkit hasn’t even changed much from years past. We still have a junk gate that can only be used once every 2 mins has a 1.7 cast time, a healthstone that only reset after combat ends.

We only got our port back this expansion because they knew that warlocks kit is so outdated that w.o it baseline the entire class in overall would of been dead for all PvP related.

I really do wish that affliction never had that damn slow for legendary or that night fae didn’t have a port that basically requires us to take it, so they can’t hide behind stupid gimmicks like this to avoid actually putting effort to updating the class.

They took away most of what made this class the survibility caster, kept that pos defensive that stills has a 3 min CD and call it a day, we used to have a versatile toolkit.

Demo is the ugly sister of aff. Basically the same thing except aff has dots and demo has demons. That’s how blizz made them. The difference is that over time blizz created a multi-layered bandaid spec in aff while demo just got muddied down to summon as many demons as possible so it buffs tyrant. However, MR is the spell that keeps giving but tyrant is a 1.5 min cd so outside of its uptime, the spec is complete garbage. Just renew dogs as cd provides and go into your insta DB-hand rotation spam that basically does no dmg. But if your in an aoe situation like m+ you also have to implode those imps. So your actually having to manage timers PLUS dmg per imp per how many mobs there are and if the dmg is worthwhile to implode or keep imps up. I hate implosion with a passion.

While on paper Vilefiend is slighlty better, you want to try Soul Strike!
Trust me it make a world of difference, not just for soul shard generation but also instant cast which help a bit while moving!
