That’s not the same. A free game and one that you have to pay $15 a month are quite different.
This is true, not to mention that the playerbase on private servers are constantly rotating in and out. There’s no way to get an accurate metric on how many players would stick with a paid sub.
TBC is not still “Live on retail” WTF are you smoking. Only thing “Live on retail” is BFA.
The few clamoring for it will only play it for a month or two?
Do you even hear what you sound like, spouting the exact same arguments against Classic almost word for word?
And yet, here we are, with massive interest in classic WoW. The things you feel are “bad”, others love and miss.
Hard Heroics, some of the best raids, flying only in Outland, Arenas, etc. Let the people who love those things have TBC servers while the others have Classic, and those who prefer retail can play that.
You may as well have just said “you think you do, but you don’t”.

How do you choose which servers progress? How do you tell the people who rolled there expecting only vanilla content to get lost?
Better to just open new servers, imo.

Do you also throw a tentrum tantrum about watching movies? I mean, whats the point, they are just going to be over in 2 years.
That’s exactly what they’d do.
With paid character transfers. You can either start from scratch on TBC servers (thus increasing the playtime/subtime of many players) or pay for a character transfer to a TBC realm (instant $$$). Additionally, it would encourage folks to play ‘Vanilla’ alts (more subtime/playtime).
Think about it and tell me this isn’t a very, very real possibility. They have to keep making money over time.
Classic + or bust!
No point in making the same mistakes twice…show me 250k sigs/huge PS of TBC and Wrath and we can talk, until then the ONLY logical thing to do is to blaze new trails and take the game in a different direction then last time.

Hundreds of thousands of players have literally been doing only naxx on pservers for the last 15 years.
The game will be fine.

Personally I’d love to see a Classic+ server come out. No, I don’t mean Classic with LFG, flying, arena, and all that crap. I mean a server that deviates from BC and maybe adds a brand new expansion with a different story, new dungeon content, raids, battlegrounds, and class tweaking, all while keeping the mechanics of Vanilla intact. That would be awesome imo, but with the way the ISIS purists are around here, that kind of talk will get your head cut off.

What happens in a couple years? I don’t know, I’ll probably either be taking a break or level a new character, or maybe trying to max out an existing character? Why do you need new content for it to live on if it’s survived on pservers for over a decade?

I created a character because my son asked me to do so, because I was always the person who leveled during Vanilla WoW, and he wanted to get online and play it with me at some point.
I had no interest in playing Classic at all, until I played it. Now I am hooked on it.
Yep, I’ve been playing vanilla for at least the past 3 years, and with Classic at least another 2.
People act like you can only play one character and then it’s done, make more than one character or play the other faction as well and you’ll have tons to do for a very long time.

My kids are playing it too and they love it! Its nice to share something with them and get to enjoy it with them this time around. 
No hard feelings man, some people like the Idea of Classic + and others don’t, some like TBC/LK and I myself liked them to a point but there just seems something wrong to me in going the same direction as last time, in a perfect world IMO I would love to see a WoW2 but the cost and development time seems to be a longer shot then Classic + IMO.
