Fair enough, how you doing tonight fuzz?

AI:

The general sentiment from users in the thread is:

  • Frustration & Confusion – Many are upset or confused about whether selling addons or gating features behind paywalls violates Blizzard’s policy.
  • Gray Area Debate – Some argue that offering “early access” or premium features via Patreon technically bypasses Blizzard’s rules without breaking them outright.
  • Call for Enforcement – A few believe Blizzard should step in and enforce the no-monetization rule more strictly.
  • Acceptance & Shrugging – Others say this has been happening for years, and Blizzard doesn’t seem to care enough to crack down.

Overall, the thread is a mix of outrage, debate, and resignation.

Thar seems like a something some good old fashioned piracy could solve.

I should be sleeping but I took a nap and now my sleep is all messed up lol

Haha I’m in a similar boat, I had a coffee a little too late in the day.

It’s actually pretty straightforward, Fuzzbutt.

RWF Guilds employ people to develop complicated WeakAuras for Mythic encounters.
One of these guilds release their fleet of WAs onto their Patreon; Which is a paid for service.

Some of us, such as myself, think this should be prohibited.

Others think it’s a perfectly fine loophole that should be left alone on the grounds that it’s not the addon specifically, just the entire point of the Addons existence (aura codes). Some people also say it isn’t paid for, that you pay for Patreon and the Auras are free.

They’re not… defending this, apparently. But they have been arguing its legitimacy since October 2024 when this issue first came to light.

Call me old fashioned, I think all WoW addons and addon accessories should be downloadable for free from Curse or whatever publicly and anonymously accessible website.

The RWF WeakAura industry is bigger than the American Oil Industry.
I aint messing with it.

Wait… if I were to… look at it and make my own that’s similar… that’s not piracy it’s developing my own.

Ok, post it here and I’ll do it.

I ain’t scared of some sweatlords hocking energy drinks.

Most of this sounds made up anyways.

Yes but, I do not understand why they have to design encounters with addons in mind,
like how low you can descend as developer (how patheic and disgrace this is) if you cannot ban addons and design raids for regular people, your playerbase, mind boggling, isnt it.

That is the reason I refuse to mraid,
I despise everything there is about rwf, raid design and the whole philosophy of destroying wow for pathteic 20 people, who are of exactly same skill as Jenny the mom of 5, but have all installed programs to whislte and bells them every second of combat of what to do.

If WOW developers have any integirty left ( doubt) they would remove WA.

Incorrect insight, as no one is saying “it’s perfectly fine.” It just is what it is and this is outdated outrage.

Those auras are already copied and shared. I don’t know what tin foil conspiracy they’re talking about. Those have been out since Octboer.

Lmao, addons are not owned by Blizzard, the code are owned by their original author, go read the License section of any addons. You will see clear copyright to their original author(s)

The worst part is when they call you “honey.”

I happen to enjoy when he acts like he’s dragged into an argument kicking and screaming instead of actively seeking out conflict in just about every thread across his 37k posts.

I dont really have a dog in this fight, but curseforge is for profit as well, with heavy advertising covering half the page. They are getting paid for their work, and has a paid tier as well to 'remove the ads."

Not saying it’s right or wrong, but anyone who has put lot of work into an add-on or any product is going to try and make money from it. So I guess I really can’t blame them. As far as being released by world first guilds, it’s a grey area, but no one is ever going to be as good as these top guilds are and they invest a lot of time being in that position, so should be some pay off.

As far as needing auras or whatever to win at the game, that horse is already out of the barn. Competitive wow has never been about equality. I just strive to do the best I can in my little corner and let the big dogs do their thing.

Idiot cries about something that isn’t against TOS.
Knowledgeable people reply it isn’t against TOS.
Idiot throws tantrum for 200+ posts.
The end.
