So it's not possible to play across regions in this game

Having a bad world latency while playing with the US region servers and it’s okay to play with Oceanic servers since i’m from Oceanic. So it’s impossible for Oceanic players to play with the other different region servers?

as an aussie… if i log into an oceanic server, it’s fine.
if i log into a NA server, it’s playable.
if i’m logged into an oceanic server and get pulled to a NA server, cast times are excessive.

(technically, cross region would be wanting to play on a EU server with a NA account)

Yes, you can only see/join servers that are for your region, which is Americas (includes Oceanic). You can see the list of servers accessible to you if you pick “Change Realm” on the top-right of the character-select screen at login. You can’t see servers in Europe, Taiwan, nor South Korea.

Edit: Apparently there’s this thing called Blizzard Global Play that actually would let you play in a different region for games other than WoW. “Global Play is available for all our games except for World of Warcraft.”

You could just create a starter account to see if your overall ping is better in a different region, but that seems unlikely and your existing characters can’t be transferred across regions. This Blizzard article explains how to create a starter account in a different region.

US to Oceanic or vice versa is fine. I do it regularly.

Yes, you will have ‘bad’ latency, but it should be within say 200ms or so, give or take a bit. Which is certainly not ideal, but in real terms, unless you’re doing some ultra competitive PvP or something, it isn’t going to make any difference other than how nice it feels to play.
