So... it's just a portal in the current hub city?

Some folks’ll twist reality to suit em. This here thread of reading one sentence and then making a forum thread of false info about it is just a prime example.

We’ll get a new “housing” Hearthstone probably.

This.

People are expecting 20 years worth of wow content thrown into the vanilla version of WoW as their opening expectations for player housing debut

Housing has been fun in other games that I’ve enjoyed in the past (Rift, FFXIV), so I’m interested in seeing how Blizzard’s version plays out. Hopefully there’s a toggle for how placement works (snap vs. free movement/collision vs. no collision so that we can break stuff to create even more stuff), the ability to resize things, etc. Oh…and an x-axis–please please please let us move things on the x-axis without mods.

:cries in paissa house:

Instanced areas are a mess and make it so you have less availability of houses for people because you have to then have instances for neighborhoods. See FFXIV.

I don’t want weirdos in my house lol

definitely they should have had it set for each race.

Im a night elf I wanna live in a tree or something lol

We shall see…

*Skeptical. *

wait what

We had a lot less players back then at Ultima. People build their houses, yet you always felt they were spare and rare.

SWG had those big cities, but they were on isolated planets, which made it much easier to maintain. It did not really matter where you put your house and to put a house, you needed to be a very high architect, which not many were.

Giving people the choice to just build a house anywhere at Azeroth would never work. People would destroy the entire world, with weird constructs everywhere.

So ya, I agree with you. Instanced housing is as good as it can be for WOW and todays communities.

I mean there’s a ton of people and it wasn’t easy to accidentally hit the top 5, even in a game with much smaller servers. They could also add an “evict” option.

I liked what I read and I wasn’t surprised 1% with their plan of the instanced zones. Makes sense. Anyone who thought we just suddenlly see houses appear in the game world , doesn’t understand tech.

I wouldn’t say that. Wildstar gave you your own personal plot and then let you eventually smush em together. Everything about your plot was yours though. You picked everything you wanted about it, and your friend’s plot could be wildly different but joined.

This just sounds more like FF14 neighborhoods, but better. You pick either an Alliance street, or a Horde street and can customise your little house area.

I honestly would have preffered something more like ESO or GW2. Entrances in the world (a door or something) you can interact with that sends you to your own instanced version. They could have had these out in smaller towns and all the racial capitals and let people actually choose where they want to live rather than smushing them once again into Horde or Alliance.

I don’t want to live with the Humans or the Orcs. I want to live in Valdrakken. :frowning:

Ahh well, hopefully we can at least have more than one house so that I can move somewhere interesting eventually and not lose whatever house I have in the neighborhood my guild sets up.

I had my hopes up that we’d get a plot in every zone gradually or have an instanced off island or something to ourselves.

But I guess what they are doing here makes perfect sense.

When they first tinkered with the idea of housing back in Vanilla, they said that they wanted to add instanced off areas in the cities for the housing neighborhoods.

Remember that unused instance portal in pre-cata Stormwind that was between the Trade District and Old Town? It was supposed to lead to the theoretical housing area there.

Having to add “plots” to old zones would be a lot of work in that you’d have to make sure it doesn’t interfere with quests in said zone.

I don’t care about housing in the slightest. I still have a garrison and use it pretty often, so what’s the point of a house? Can I use the bank or transmog at my house? Use the auction house at my house? Because I can at my garrison. Function matters far more than aesthetics to me when it comes to living areas.

Yeah. My feelings for WoW housing has been reduced to a wet Bronx cheer. I was hoping we’d get something like WildStar where we could build our own houses and decorate the land around it. Everyone in WildStar got their own plot of land to whatever they wanted with.

Seems WoW’s is gonna be a house you can’t change on land you can’t change. Pfffft. Lame.

They talk about getting the zones right, but that’s just it. With the WildStar system there was no zones to build. The players did all of it themselves. All the WoW devs had to give us was a blank plot of land and tools to let us build it how we wanted. I don’t see how that’s not easier in the long run (while also being more fun).

And neighborhoods, WildStar had that worked out by the end too. Players could link their plots of land together. Not only just to be neighbors but also to build over. Could be one giant multi-plot house.

I guess we’ll see how the inside of WoW housing turns out, but I’m not optimistic. I’ll bet it’ll be one, unchangeable house layout and WoW housing will entirely just be were in that default house you stick a few bits of furniture.

Dance studio when?! :joy:

I think it would be fine if the portal was somewhere in main gathering areas in the cities. Then just have an entire zone dedicated to different neighborhoods. You can have a parcel of land, then put a homestead on it so players get go to each others homes.

Whispers from under the couch “Then why am I in here?”

You’re extrapolating a lot and getting mad at something you’re extrapolating, by the way.

Then waht did you expect if not a portal?
