Retail is operating as if its a failing mmorpg in “maintenance mode”(maybe it is). Is this what we can come to expect between major patches?
Why are they not experimenting with actual in-game retail content? They are making what amounts to launcher games with some cross promotion rewards and completely ignoring retail content, tuning and maintenance. Retail is far from perfect right now and that goes beyond the usual pre expansion lull preiod.
Like I don’t mind them making these seasonal events but just ignoring retail almost entirely is an issue no? Especially if they are going to continue this trend (they clearly are, these limited time events are going to be seasonal).
I understand from a business perspective SoD has shown them that this is a far better way to increase sub count and probably retention rather than just focusing on the actual main game but that really doesn’t bode well for retail itself.
Are the expansions in the upcoming saga going to be just as barren content wise and mostly ignored tuning wise with focus put on seasonal event launcher games between major patches?
Outside of mythic+/raiding and a dying pvp scene, what has dragonflight even had in terms of things that make you want to log in and play. It’s like retail is the meat (as rancid as it is) and the potatoes got moved off the plate as all the content is being put into outside game modes.
Really just want something to do in the actual game, as well as attention being given to it, and not be pushed to play a launcher game instead for said content.
Because those are things they are adding NEXT EXPANSION. Like, we already know what content they plan to add for the foreseeable future. If none of that interest you, you are free to take a break or quit.
Or, they’re testing some stuff that doesn’t take much effort to throw together and is ‘new enough’ to tide players over so we aren’t sitting on 10.2 for 10 months.
BFA > SL was the shortest transition ever and the only one that didn’t spend around a year between final tier and next expansion release. You want SL again? Obviously it takes a long damn time to cook up expansion content, much more than another tier, because the year-long end patch has been the norm.
The alternative is being the sort of notoriously awful game company that switches between mass hiring and mass layoffs and nobody worth keeping wants to stick around.
As much as I loved replaying BC and WotLK (and will enjoy Cata), it set an unfortunate precedent that led to the current mess. What was once a single game became two, and now it’s, what, five? With more on the way? Where does it end?
Loathe as I am to say this, I think we’d have been better off if the game remained retail and retail only. Because it’s clear they refuse to give each version an adequately sized maintenance team, and we’re seeing the consequences with across- the-board bugs.
Blizzard has been experimenting with wow for 4 expansions now. One of the most notable in my opinion for a mid expansion addition was the chrome thing in legion. They also added mage tower, and then brought it back. Back in MoP we had brawl arena (where is it btw?)
They might’ve realized it’s easier to do these experiments outside of the main game. Which is fine with me as long as whatever I do in these experiments has something I can bring back to the main game.
The best part about this garbage post is that not long ago people where complaining that the outdoor activities (Forbidden Reach, Primalist Future, time thing in Thaldraszus) were coming too quickly and making everything before them irrelevant. It’s almost like in addition to a comically short memory for anything but whatever pet issue they’ve been gnashing their teeth about for years, WoW players also don’t actually know what they think the devs should do to make them happy.
If you want “something to do in the actual game,” there’s good news: They’re quite literally in the process of making a new expansion as we speak.
The way DF content was pushed out yes WoW is in maintenance mode. TWW looks like a similar copy paste so far but we have to see if they break the mold.
i was unaware season 4 had come and gone already i kid im just glad they aren’t wedging these “test” systems in to the main game though i do give them credit for trying new things outside the box but meh so far (i mean im still going to do them cause i like collecting things)
id like for them to start talking about the hero talents more or show them off, delves and warbands. just doesn’t feel like we have barely any info abt it. xiv has more than we do lol
These are not necessarily the same people, though.
I agree with the OP insofar that I’d like actually new content in the live service game (retail) throughout the duration of an expansion. This is not an indie studio. They have the resources to plan out and create content for the full two-ish years of an expansion and there is no actual reason why the second half or last third of an expansion is so void of new content. “It’s always been this way” is not good enough.
If we do get rehashed content, I’d at least like it to be released to the actual game, not to an external realm where I can’t use my main character to do that content. It diminishes the experience for me, and the reason why I play MMOs instead of other seasonal games.
It’s not very satisfying to me that the only real solution here is to become a seasonal subscriber who only plays (and pays) for a few months after each new expansion. But that seems to be the smartest approach, considering that the decision makers (I don’t even think it’s the developers) double down on neglecting retail WoW in favor of rehashing old content. Now that rehashed content is even split off the the main game.
No it isnt the current expansion is basically over at this point and now they are giving us things to do while waiting for the next and your complaining?
So apparently according to you adding the final patch of the expansion and planning out the next 3 expansions and currently developing the first of those 3 expansions amounts to “ignoring retail” people just dont have anything to do because dragonflight is essentially over at this point.
What do you want them to do??? Just make no content in between the 6 months for the next xpac???
Theres nothing wrong with having a new game mode to keep people interested while we wait for war within i for one am excited to play it.
Completely revamped professions bug world content like storms time rifts and dragonflying races and the usual collection stuff thats always in wow if thats something you like.
You guys must be new to wow cause usually between last major patch and expansion we got literally nothing for 8+ months. I would 100% take these seasonal in-between patches over the huge droughts we got in the past.
When dragonflight plays things safe they have higher retention rate which is a good thing. And that should give them a signal on continuing the safe route rather than take risk that would hurt or help the game longevity.
