is it just all we have for instants so we make do with it
it seems really weak
but i guess if you compare it to rejuv or something it’s good, it’s like an instant weaker regrowth

It is a small heal with hot. However its strength is it grants tidal waves which greatly enhances Healing Wave and Healing Surge.
Resto shaman is a weaver in my opinion. You want to weave spells that grant tidal waves with spells that consume tidal waves.
Talents that play into this are unleash life and flash flood
ah okay i see, so im not looking for anything game changing from riptide, just use it where it fits and get tidal waves
that makes sense
Play with the talent Undulation and it becomes way more interesting/ valuable.
Do not under estimate riptides role as a heal. More often than not in a mythic plus run riptide will be my third highest heal behind healing surge and chain heal. It should always be used on cooldown. Typically I will have riptide HOT rolling on 3 or 4 of the party members if not all at once. If you’re using riptide purely reactively then it’s being utilized improperly.
Posted on wrong character.
Riptide heal a lot for me in pvp when i roll with triple surging tide trait.
But just like the panda lady, you mostly use it to get the tidal wave and have a hot going.
I try to always keep it up on the tank when I heal along with Earth Shield. The passive healing is handy while I throw out some healing on the rest of the party.
Earth Shield is a very poor choice on that talent row and should not be used. The default is Echo of the Elements. Deluge can see play when the party is stacked but even then it is rarely used outside of raids.
I love deluge man. It helps shore up our tank healing weakness. Its a nice bonus when everyone’s grouped up but imo its still worth it even if you only have riptide on the tank. Between Deluge, Tidal Waves, Undulation and our Mastery, you can get the fattest healing surges.
Many healers have a instant HoT and it usually has a small starter component too:
Renew
Rejuvenation/Regrowth
Renewing Mist
Bestow Faith (kinda)
Atonement Heals Via Shadow: Word Pain
Of all of these, Riptide heals for the most instantly, and is a considerable amount over time too, rivaling nearly all of the above in actual numbers. It also grants Tidal Waves, which is the main point of Resto Shaman. Generally speaking, so long as you’re not overcapping Tidal Waves, it is beneficial to you to cast Riptide as close to off-cooldown as humanly possible as it is strong, efficient, and grants access to more powerful spells.
If you compare it to insta cast, heavy heals like Holy Shock, it does almost as much, it’s just Holy Shock has such a higher chance to crit, and usually does as opposed to Riptide. But I would factor the spell into a HoT category more than a burst one so the comparison isn’t truly fair. Resto shaman just isn’t a insta-healer type class and relies heavily on casted spell, both being a good and bad thing for sure.
TLDR; Overall really, really strong, probably best HoT spell in the game factoring in both components.
