So if I want to *TRY* to get the Scarab Lord mount... what exactly would I have to do?

This has always been a bit of a mystery to me. My guild was only barely progressing in BWL when the gates of AQ finally opened, and my PC at the time literally couldn’t handle the amount of people in Silithus so I couldn’t even see it (Medivh was the world first server! #ServerPride)

It’s one of those things that I’ve always thought would be cool to witness, and assuming the Anniversary servers follow suit, then isn’t it something like a “window of time” in which anyone could potentially get the Scarab Lord mount?

Only thing I remember hearing was that there was evidently quite a bit of prep-work, so not something you could just show up to get. Beyond that though, I feel like I’ve struggled to find a concise checklist of “things you have to finish prior to AQ gates opening”.

Or maybe I’ve misunderstood and it really is only for a single player on the server?

Go watch the Barny Scarab Lord Series. This will let you know if you really wanna do this.

There’s a massive quest chain with multiple branches and it requires an entire guild of people dedicated to helping you achieve scarab lord. Literally only one person per 40 man raid could get it since there are drops such has the head of broodlord lashslayer that only one person can get per week. I can’t recall what the minimum number of weeks to get it is but rest assured people will get it as soon as possible.

Once the first person turns in the final quest the 10 hour war begins and anyone else trying to get the scarab mount must turn in the final quest within that 10 hour window or their opportunity is gone forever.

As stated above, Google it of you want greater detail. There are many online guides and videos guides you can find.

Probably one of the most time consuming / gold consuming grinds in classic.

You will need a team helping you. I dare say if you don’t have too much knowledge on it, you may not even complete it in time

Okay, so I’m trying to understand this…:

There’s obviously a lot of quests involved, but the “problematic” points seem to be killing the Broodlord boss in BWL and getting his head (only one drop per kill), and then another quest to kill Nefarion within 5 hours of accepting a quest for a Red Scepter Crystal?

I’m particularly curious if it’s possible for more than one person in a guild to actually do this, or if it’s one-and-done? I’m assuming the actual opening of AQ’s gates is going to be finished almost immediately after it’s added, so I’m just trying to figure out whether or not this is a realistic thing if I’m willing to put in some work, or if this is basically off-limits to anyone but an actual guild-leader of a dedicated, active raiding guild?

to get the title in time you will need help from a lot of players…
by either being in very big guild with hundreds of people.
or by just paying tons of people to aid you for the farm.

For starters, you’re going to want to take out a personal loan of around $10,000

If you can’t do that, you won’t be able to compete with the degen guilds.

Half jokes aside, the degen guilds on Nightslayer will be attempting to make sure they’re the only ones who get the mount. They do it on every server they play on.

If you’re on Dreamscythe, it’s a different situation and you could have a chance if your guild helps you (and you take out a personal loan to buy gold with)

You cant do it. Dont try.

You also need to account for those who will actively work against and hinder you in the pursuit of Scarab Lord. And not just the opposite faction. This title/mount, perhaps more than anything else in WoW, has the tendency to bring out the absolute worst in people. I’ve seen guilds break apart because of legendary weapons from vanilla through WotLK but it pales in comparison to the sort of vitriol I’ve observed arising over this.

I’m not one to try and discourage someone from engaging with any content in the game but this is perhaps the one exception where I would advise against even bothering unless you have considerable resources (both material and personnel) at your disposal and you have an immense amount of time to dedicate to this effort. Thick skin is a plus.

If you decide that this is something you well and truly wish to pursue, I wish you the best of luck and hope you are rewarded for your efforts.

Edit: I also advise against it with somewhat of a heavy heart because I personally love the questline in and of itself and as a collector, the title and mount has obvious appeal. I was a part of this effort in the original release all those years ago and it was a blast so of course I’d be overjoyed if people had just as much fun with it as I did all those years ago.

Isn’t it the same Questline to get Dirge’s Kickin’ … It’s great fun if so.

It is indeed. That recipe comes about (without looking at the questline itself) I’d say around 3/4 the way through.

Edit: This is probably my absolute favorite questline because of how involved it is. After that would be the tier 0.5 set questlines. They just don’t make em like they used to.

It’s long … I remember farming all those scarab shells … But fun!

The scarab shells is possibly the only part I didn’t like. Granted, if you do the questline well after the point of being able to get Scarab Lord, you get Brood of Nozdormu rep just from running AQ20/40 (if memory serves - lord it’s been more than a hot minute) so those turn ins become less necessary.

I was in a small guild, that did not do AQ often, and I am vision impaired, so I do not do Dungeons/Raids if at all avoidable. I was carried through for the Head, and supplied my Gulid with Chops forever after and until they became obsolete  I kinda liked the scarab shell farming. I so wanted the “Chef” achievements :cook:
Gosh, the memories, and yes long time ago. Only two or three from my old guild even play any more.

Small guilds are great. I’m really sorry to hear about your vision impairment and being less able to do dungeons/raids (so many sights/sounds/smells to take in). I think it was more the person we were assisting with scarab shells than it was farming them in and of itself that got me.

The person in question was a guy playing a female human mage named Gemina who also happened to be either French or French Canadian (I honestly can’t tell the difference between the two just listening to them) and they had this uncanny knack for getting under my skin. A great person all in all, just something about them that poked and prodded at me. I played a resto druid at the time and had the most time available to me to assist with the effort so there I was for what seemed like an eternity helping to farm those shells, tossing out a regrowth/rejuv on occasion but otherwise fighting with boredom. Silithus gave me PTSD.

Still fun memories. I was a mighty Paladin at that time - he still hangs out somewhere in Retail, I suppose. And while we had no chance of ever getting the mount or title, fun times were had by the two of us wanting to see how far we could get - and at least get that recipe! I made it first, by persistently farming scarabs for days on end. I also still get the creeps from seeing those twitching legs.

There is a part of me, a very small part mind you, that wishes Blizzard would just remove the cut-off point for turning everything in and getting Scarab Lord and the mount. Not something I ever intend to advocate for but not something I would kick up a fuss about were they to do it for some reason.

Reason being is that, to me at least, it functions as an incentive for anyone and everyone to work on that particular questline, to engage with all the content necessary to complete it and I am all about that.

It’s obviously a status symbol and I understand why it was made to be exclusive. To me, it’s less a status symbol or something to sit on in the middle of SW/Orgrimmar to boast about but rather just one more thing to collect. A visual representation of the efforts necessary to acquire it and nothing more.

Just wish Blizzard had included more such involved questlines in TBC/WotLK.

To sum up:
It’s not only for one on each server, it’s for everyone handing in the sceptre less than 10 hours after the first hand-in.
BUT
To do so you need a guild - or a lot of friends and family - to back you up, and a huge amount of work and time to invest in the project.

Nightslayer is going to be a cesspit once that quest chain opens.

if you have to ask, you can’t afford it :expressionless:

honestly tho, the bug mount is ugly anyway. i hate how you’re leaning forward so much on it, like you’re gonna fall over at any second.
