You’re really going to go with “need before greed”? So the classes who can optimally use the item will need roll even if it’s a measly +1 stat upgrade, or even no upgrade at all. They deny 900g to the rest of the group without any consideration, because they have nothing to lose. Worst case scenario they can still vendor the item for a solid 5g, that is if the group forces him to soulbind it.
Should you just need roll on every purple BoE that drops?

Lay of Lilies dropped in my group running Jintha’Alor. First person instinctively rolled greed, so we decided we would all roll greed. The healer could have legitimately needed, but he’s the coolest guy on the planet and decided that these kinds of drops should just be a gamble for the group.
The tank won it and we were all happy for him.
I love BSB. Never had a single conflict. Everyone has been totally cool.

In Classic you need to find a guild that shares your values and goals to maximize your enjoyment.
As I was writing this the post above mine posted. I wonder if “I love BSB” refers to a guild. The context suggest that’s an accurate interpretation.

“I need gold” is not a legitimate need. Everyone needs gold. Even the guy with 5k gold still needs gold; there’s no such thing as too much gold. This makes “I need gold” a moot point in groups. All that’s left is “that’s an upgrade” vs “that’s gold in my pocket”. The answer to your question is in the terms themselves:
Need - that item is useful for me; it is an upgrade and I will equip it
Greed - I like money
Why should someone be denied capitalizing on a rare or epic BoE drop for an item they need just because they’re grouped? Imagine if BoP wasn’t a thing and literally every item in the game was BoE; would you think that need rolls should be removed altogether? A drop is a drop and an upgrade is an upgrade regardless of BoE vs BoP. The only time I can imagine someone should pass on a BoE that they need for an upgrade is if it’s a guild run and the guild is better served by them passing.

If you feel wronged file a report with your local police department.

Bit of advice. Whenever you are in a pug make the announcement right as the group starts… “roll need on BoE”. The only way to prevent a “ninja” is for everyone to roll need. Make it clear right from the start that everyone is to roll need and you will never have a problem again.

I always need on BoEs. Gold is important.

No. Everyone knows those BoE rares and epics are money items, many of us know specifically which ones. Everyone “need” rolls and it prevents the ninja b.s. I’ve even seen it among guildies and real life friends. It shouldn’t happen in non-PuG groups, but it does. I’ve also seen this crap play out with people doing it your way only for th person that “needed” it to not equip it and it later wind up on the AH.

Who TF has 900g to spend on an epic right now
Edit: Hmm not sure why this shows me replying to post #2 but it’s directed at the OP lmao

Asmon does. The single greatest wow player in the last 50 years.

If you would equip it = Need
No? = Greed

Discuss how loot is to be handled while heading to the dungeon.

I would say yes. A BoE epic should be considered more of a bonus than expected loot. Just let it go to whoever wins the roll.

Absolutely.
It’s the whole point of it being Bind on Equip. If they were meant to be equipped on the spot, why wouldn’t they have made them BoP.
It’s literally in the design. Players came up with the “priority” system. Gold is a need in classic and in some cases a more dire need then a few stat points. That may be replaced not ling after the BoE upgrade. I get that some are BiS slot as well. Best thing to do is not roll with pugs and communication of loot rules prior to the start of a run.

Need roll on all boe blue or epics at high level to avoid drama. Make loot rules known and have them type they agree before dungeon starts and if anybody disagrees then kick them and replace.

You all keep doing this. You keep thinking your opinions are the ‘One Standard’ and that everyone else is wrong. This isn’t how that works.
The group leader decides what goes where. No amount of debating here, pleading, reasoning, or whatever will ever change that fact.
They can decide the loot goes by NbG, they can reserve it, they can let it go to where everyone rolls, or they can decide its their guild’s and take it themselves. And if you disagree with them, there’s little you can do except leave with a pouty lip going ‘he was mean to me… my opinion matters!’.
No, no it doesn’t.

But it is a problem! Cassandra’s Grace, a great blue drop for healers dropped a couple of days ago but I can’t find a buyer.
I’m just going to put it in the bank for a while.

The fundamental problem with this line of thinking is that ‘Group Leader’ is a slotted position by whomever is starting the group. It doesn’t necessarily mean that said person is doing any leading at all. The person simply took the initiative to make a group because he/she wanted to run the raid/dungeon/location.
I may start a ZF group later but I have no intention of leading because I don’t even remember the instance.
Overall, it’s better that the group as a whole decides from the outset.
