So I know its a beaten to death topic

But why did survival get the melee treatment when Beast Mastery is like…the more suited spec?

Survival feels like a mash of talents and skills that don’t really go together. Explosives mixed with pet stuff? None of it really flows. Was it because BM was considered the “little brother” spec? It is easy as all hell and its always been an easy spec, so it’d make sense they would keep it simple for the kiddos/people who don’t want complex rotations.

I just imagine Rexxar, who is clearly a Beast Mastery hunter, and hes all up in peoples faces beating the piss out of people with his bear. Idk, just feels like a missed opportunity.

I agree, delete Survival :stuck_out_tongue:

Because Beast Mastery had an established theme: Pets. Bigger, better and more plentiful pets.

Survival was kinda weird. It was called “Survival” but it was about magical damage shots. You weren’t particularly survivaly, and while it has it’s own rotation the fantasy of Survival Hunter was about the same as MM, except with an ill fitting name.

So they decided to make it the spear Hunter instead.

Guess that makes sense, though they could’ve leaned into the explosive stuff more with Survival. Explosive Shot and Wildfire bomb mixed with a bunch of pet stuff doesn’t scream Survival…to me at least.

The spec called “survival” encourages you to use explosives from melee range.

My question is, if and when tinkers come out I would assume thier kit would be very similar to survival minus the pets maybe, so would they revamp survival?

I had some fun with survival a couple expansions ago but it does just feel like they put a bunch of abilities on a dart board and that’s how they put it together. I mean it was playable but didn’t really seem to have any real theme to it

iirc it was because Survival had melee based talents back in vanilla - Wrath and maybe with the update Cata did.

But I am in the boat that Beast Master should’ve been turned into the melee spec, given that Rexxar, who is a Beast Master (I don’t give a damn what Legion says) is a melee fighter. As seen in WC3.

And nothing says “survival” more than throwing a harpoon tied to a chain at someone and lunging yourself towards them instead of the other way around.
