Story time.
I’m getting a little burned out on Evoker and have been trying out different classes to sort of see if there’s an alt I’d like to play for awhile. It occurred to me that I’ve never played a tank before, so I decided to try out tanking.
I tried out blood death knight and it wasn’t really my jam, even though the aesthetic is god tier. I realized then that I never actually played a paladin before.
The moment I hit level 10 and activated the specialization, A Call to Arms began to blare. Light radiated out from my monitors. Angels descended down in a magnificent choir.
They have an easy to follow rotation for newbies like me.
My skills as a healer can transfer over to paladin’s off healing abilities.
Their auras are absolutely beautiful.
They toss a shield like Captain America and it interrupts.
It’s- It’s so beautiful and so much fun. I’m so excited to play this class. I can’t believe it took me so long to…
…
Puts on shades
See the Light.

Just wait until the rush of a perfectly timed Blessing of Protection. Hard to beat. In Halls of Valor on Fenrir when the fixate goes out it was such a great move.
I love the ability when a fixate happens ohh you going to try that divine protection or bop. Yea I do wish we had a leap though
It really is such a beautiful kit right now. So many answers to problems and you always feel like you can do better. It also ties in greatly to healing with WoG.
Enjoy.
That’s the thing I love the most!
“I can do my job, but what if I did my job better and more efficiently?”
I really hope the hype I have right now for the class/spec lasts past the ‘honeymoon’ phase.
Yup, it’s great… Long time healer myself but for DF decided to branch out into tanking too, went with Prot Pally for the same reasons you did… And yeah, great choice, it has not disappointed.
Specially for M+ I’d say it feels really good, on low keys you have a lot of tools to carry the group or deal with a lot of situations and in higher ones the utility is always super valuable.
I rarely tank in Raids though since I much rather play healer there, so it’s also great to have that option.

Yup, paly was my first char of all time. Back in vanilla was holy and was great in AV.
TBC was great for prot pally, and lvled a new one on horde side. Then left paly for DK in Woltk. Basically left WOW at the end of pandaria with Brew Monk as main.
When i came back at the very end of BFA jumped on DH tank and loved that class, unlocked all allied class with it. Unlocked heritage armor with Zandar prot pally in SL. Same with LF dreanei. Mained Guardian druid on 2nd half of SL.
DF of course went Evoker and fell in love with preserv. Had not healed since vanilla. Now im like you, burnt out on evoker. And since tanking was always my fav spec, i realize i should abandon that class and go for an hybrid so i can still heal sometimes too.
What Blizz has done to paly recently has been incredible. Prot was already perfect, and now we have ret and holy also viable. Recently I jumped on my very first paly to unlock human heritage armor and I had a blast with prot again. I think i found my new main.
Just wanted to add that tanks are for me always the most fun specs to play for leveling. You should try all tanks you have never played. The only one tank class i like less than all others is BloodDK
Enjoy
I do intend to try out Demon Hunter next! Druid was always a bit intimidating for yours truly.
So I have DH Tank/DPS so here is what I can tell you both tank and dps can use mostly the same gear with a few change outs. The problems with DH tanks is inital threat. If the dps blow all their cds on pull they will pull threat from you. I have experienced this. There are ways to deal with this issue but this is the problem with DH’s.
When you try Wings + divine toll you will cry tears of joy when you look at the dps meters shoot up to the sky. Add an on use trinket and dps potion for more glory.
