So i checked out this GTA defintive trilogy trailer

As somebody who religiously plays GTA since as a child and still do to this day, you can tell you right off the bat that these games back on the PS2 were not only major fun, but effectively played a big part in shaping my gaming tastes on what video games can be. I couldn’t put them down. Their like Skyrim before Skyrim. The Mortal Kombat of my generation if you will.

Little history: Granted, going back to the PS2 games themselves, the graphics are extremely rough and muddy, and trying to play them with a controller feels outdated (though GTA SA is honestly the best in this regard), and the low framerates certainly makes it a headache and a half combined with the trails option. (I love the trails, but the 25fps? Ugh. No can do anymore. Being a grown up sucks.), but it's the PS2 games back in 2001 to 2004. There's really not much you can do with that. Unless you're on the PC version. *Then* really much you can do with that.

Yeah, you can already tell where this is going since i bought up the PC version.
Rest in Peace Vice Cry.

The major baffling moves of Take Two and even a bit of Rockstar treating mods like the swine flu, really started to make me disillusioned with this whole company all together,
and pretty much turned me off from the Remake. :unamused:

Oh, i’m sorry… Remaster. Silly me, because i thought they would put in the same effort they did with Mafia 1. Make the graphics jaw dropping to behold, fill the empty spaces with props, modernize the controls, maybe fix some of the story beats, ya know?.. But nope, it’s a remaster… Because remasters typically update controls in 2021, right? :upside_down_face:

Well at least it’s better then Wardrum studios in that regard. Especially with sorry excuse they did with GTA SA.

Oh and it’s $60. Neat. Meanwhile the original games for the PC are around or under $40? Oh and they switched into an engine that is notoriously restricted for modding?..

But fine.

…Putting that side, i’ve checked out the trailer.

And here’s my reactions to the trailer:

“Why the train is not sticking to the tracks?”
“Why some of the objects still have the same poly count?”
“Wait, why’s there no grass and why we see this painted terrain in ocean drive?”
“Oh, so they did add minor details, but why not in other shots?”
“Why i only see few cars on the road like in the original?”
“…Okay the rainy weather looks impressive.”
“Why the sky reminds me of those Skybox mods for GTA SA that is overly saturated?”
“…Why some of the environments that were dark look very bright?”
“Oh look, they finally have the Xbox OG hands, neat”
“Did Rockstar added ENB to the cars? Why every car looks so dang shiny?”
“Why the water looks flat?”
“I love the trees in the background, very GTA 5-etse”
“Explosions are nice too”
And “… At least CJ doesn’t look like an eyesore.”

As you can tell from these reactions here, i’m not fond of the… interesting approach to the graphics of this trailer. And yes, i know what some of you might be saying…

Oh you’re expecting them to have graphics of GTA 5…

Well yes. This is Rockstar Games and they have put out excellent looking games as of late. I would imagine expecting them to create RDR2 levels of beautiful would be unreasonable, considering their also porting to the switch to, but GTA 5 seems reasonable enough. (considering it also came out on Xbox 360 and Ps3, and Nintendo is usually a generation behind in terms of tech.) It just seems weird they do this tbh. I wouldn’t mind a straight up port to the switch with the Renderware version, since it was proven that it can be done with the those RE3 and REVC mods. But Take two doesn’t do that. (As well Ray Tracing, a surprisingly very moddable engine. I would imagine somebody would make the renderware games 32bit to 64 bit in the future.)

And i’ve to really wonder what’s up with the System Requirements for a game that looks like that in the trailer. :man_shrugging:

Well they are styled it in a certain way because of the PS2 Limitations. It’s not suspose to look realistic.

Fine, but it doesn’t have to look bizarre.

Taking a couple examples, Destroy All Humans and Spyro, they were styled in a certain why because of the limitations of the console as well. Especially true with Spyro. But when it comes to their remakes, not only they look like what happens if you… ‘HD-ify’ the game from PS1 or 2 to the PS4, but also leaned heavily into the cartoon style, while also, making it beautiful to behold.

Bari, it’s a remaster.

Still, would it hurt the remaster to have 3D modeled grass at least? or more props lying about? Or have more cars on the road since you’re gonna have more ram?.. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Look i get it, this is graphics i’m talking about and in the grand scheme of things, if it plays well, it plays well regardless how it looks, and i still play the old renderware versions, i’m used to them looking like that by now. But this is something i’ve expected for the 10th anniversary to do, not the 20th. Heck, even mods we have for the renderware version can actually accomplish that. Like 3D grass. I know i keep on harping about 3d model grass, but the devil is in the details. Little things like that make a world look better and alive.

I don’t hate the GTA 3, VC and SA. I love them, which is why i criticize the graphics of the new trailer because i want them to be better. I would imagine this be a pretty cool way to play GTA 3 to SA in the modern times now, and on the go as well with the Switch. I just wish they just made it into a remake instead of remastering it. I’m just more dispointed then mad.

What i am mad about is we still don’t have a PC port of LCS and VCS… Rockstar. Oi!

But those are my thoughts, what are yours about the trailer and the upcoming remaster?

And incase if you don’t know…

Edit: Okay i just found out, that the remaster was being remade by Grove Street Games… which was formerly known as Wardrum studios… Welp screw me for giving some praise to this remaster.

Don’t get mad, get Oxiclean!

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Oh hi, are you going to discuss about the GTA trailer with us, or… what?..

Naw, I’m cool. But thanks though!

Okay then… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’ll talk about it with you since that meany-brat won’t.

The trailer was totally cool, bro!

…Okay Matthew. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Well i’m glad you’re happy for it. :man_shrugging:

I am at least happy it’s not a complete mess like Wardrum studios made with GTA SA and Rockstar is making it. So that’s neat.

Kind of wish they give us LCS and VCS too. Seriously Vice City Stories is awesome yet so underated…

No man, it’s “Bloodlust”. B l o o d l u s t, only the first letter in caps.

I liked all the colors in the trailer.

…I agree Matthew, the colors are pretty.

Kind of wish they have 3D modeled grass in Vice City. And more props…

At least they have more trees, so that’s neat.

The remaster doesn’t look too bad at all but I understand where you are coming from. You are looking for something more, like what Rare did with Conker’s Bad Fur Day, when they remade the N64 version for the Xbox:

Personally, if they are going for a Cartoon style for GTA, that’s fine. I just think it needs some refining. Maybe make it cel-shaded, sort of based on the PS2 Loadscreens, ya know?
