I didn’t know it was a requirement for anything in game:

HOWEVER,

setup your authenticator. its good digital security practice.

Too much work and trouble. My phone is not in the best conditions and can stop to work at any moment, if this happens, i will be locked out of WoW for some time, so too much problem. I don’t live in a 1st world country, so cellphones is quite expensive here.

you can use the group finder to create a group, you just can not edit the title or anything.

from support article:

In addition, only accounts that have been secured with a Battle.net Authenticator and Phone Notifications can add custom text to the Pre-made Group Finder listing. If you don’t have an Authenticator or Phone Notifications, you can use the Pre-made Group Finder, but you will not be able to write custom text on your listing.

But in order to create a group, it asks you to put a tittle

Its a shame that’s such a probelm for you. But it’s really a good idea to have one. (Does blizzard still sell physical ones? Get one)

digital security is a big deal and WoW has a really bad history of accounts being compromised. if you have any personal / identifable information on your account (such as Credit card for payments, or addresses), and you don’t have 2factor setup, there is little else stopping someone nefarius getting that information if they get in.

And as I said. Blizzard has a really REALLY bad history of letting people in. EG, back during WoD, I took a break. I changed my password, took my authenticator off. within 2 days my account was broken into. Even with a random password.

If you lose your account because you didn’t put 2factor on it, you may end up losing quite a bit more than just information as well.

This goes for ALL online accounts. You should be opting to use 2factor for everything.

Thats pathetic

Looks like blizzard’s solution to bots and whatnot is just to make things more of a PITA for regular players instead of paying devs to find solutions.

Only if you change IP addresses. Once authenticated, you will remain authenticated as long as you’re logged into Battle.net. I only use my authenticator a few times a year.

Plus I have moved the app to a couple new phones since I set it up.

In 2 weeks it is going to be mandatory and required to log in to the game so get used to it now.

What was annoying was having the oldschool pin authenticator and STILL needing to link a phone number to the acct. ( downloading the app authenticator didnt solve the issue or unlock the bags/LFG options )

I don’t have a personal cell. To bypass it I had to use my work cell.

Stupid change is stupid.

Lies. Do you have a “source” for this information?

I am in Canada, no SMS because I can’t afford a cell phone. They stick you with expensive contracts and such.

They don’t, but if you still have one that works - they still work

i know. Canadian as well. Robelus has us by the privates.

What solution? They’re still there.

Can you source this please? So people can get the word out because I sure didn’t know this was coming…

The forum would be hilarious if this was true. looool

And I get asked to use my authenticator like once every few months, and mostly just for store bought things, and even then, not very often.

People act like it’s this big oppressive thing. It isn’t. You’ll rarely need it.

Did you read my post at all? The ‘authenticator.’ isn’t my issue, it’s the SMS

Sorry I don’t have $100/month I can commit to a phone for the next 2 years just to have a phone. Rent, food etc is too expensive, no money for a cell phone.

I have a house phone for $20/month

Perfect. Now all the bots are DoA.

You don’t need SMS. I don’t have it enabled. I only use the software authenticator.

it does not require SMS services to work. Only online via some means (even WiFi)

False. To post/edit titles to make groups you 100% need SMS. Which again, people who don’t have cell phones can’t do
