I was reading some strategies and guides over on a certain fansite, and they were suggesting that Engineering is a must, at least for DPS players.
I am going to be honest, I only completed a few bosses during Vanilla before TBC launched, but I don’t remember Engineering being quite as “necessary” as they made it seem on the guide I was reading.
So, for those who had more experience than I did raiding in vanilla, how important was Engineering really?
It’s not mandatory in battlegrounds, but it certainly gives you an edge.
Engineering is for PvP, not Player versus Easy.
Warrior you should definitely do engineering. Also cooking and first aid.
About as important as consumables and other things that maximize your character but don’t prevent you from downing bosses. Almost every DPS spec has downtime in their rotation, either because of mana regen or just gaps, so filling that with a 300-500 damage grenade or a 450-750 damage sapper charge is no joke. Also consider things like the Gnomish Battle Chicken and Arcanite Dragonling for their respective buffs/debuffs which dramatically improve DPS for some groups.
With enough engineers, you can literally stun-lock trash packs with the Thorium Grenades.
This is hilariously false. Engineering in Vanilla is probably the strongest profession in the game for all facets of the game by far.

Didn’t that release in LK?
Yes but Classic still had mechanical chickens.
Is this applicable to HC Classic?
6 year necro should be banable.
If Blizz doesn’t want people to respond to old threads then they should delete them. I don’t understand why people think the thread is no good just because its old.

I dunno about banable.
