Feel everyone who comes here complaining about ds being terrible gets bombarded with comments like " you just have it use it intelligently now" . Well I made my own dk, the skill is terrible lol so now I am asking how do I use it intelligently? I mean even with transfusion I have to spam it like 8 times and it still doesnt seem to heal for much T.T
Use it after you have just taken damage. It heals you for a percent of damage you have taken in the last 5 seconds.
Use it too early/late and it heals for the minimum (small % of your HP)
i’d like to know this as well, because you nailed the experience right on the head and i damn well know how to use DS better than most of the people telling me to git gud.
so i was thinking, maybe im using it too early, when the shiney paladin comes for me instead of hitting DS after each TV maybe i should hit it after every other TV in order to have a bigger heal, so i tried it, and still died and while i was at the graveyard waiting for the spiritguide to get back from his break (WG) i remembered that its percentage based. and that if the only way to survive avenging wrath is to blow all my cds at once, then i am unable to 1v1 a ret because i will have nothing left for dealing with the pally’s 2nd and 3rd lives.
DS is broken, and right now we are not viable 1v1 against many classes who are able to just dps us down, if you think that because its viable in arena with a pocket healer and 48% vers that there is no problem you are delusional. if a spell is trash everywhere but under the most controlled conditions, then the spell is in fact trash, and people need to admit it.
It is not really that trash, but it only heals up to 30% of the damage in the last 5 seconds.
So if you have just taken big damage use it a couple times in a row. Theoretically, if you did not get hit by anything else you could heal back 90% of that big hit.
Even better though, avoid getting hit by TV when wings are up.

Even better is healing up that dmg with death strike and then throwing a gpie back in their face because you used dark sim as they cast it…

okay, say we get 2 TV crits, and a 50k lethal strikes proc in 5 seconds, that could be 250k incoming damage, and your first heal from DS will be for 75k, your next heal will be a base heal, or ~25k, and the next will be ~25k.
so in 3 globals you have healed back ~125k out of 250k, do you see why this is an issue, even spending all of our resources on defensive play we are in a losing battle for self healing.
oh and…
how are you not getting hit by anything when you have to be in hitting things range to use DS? especially to try and spam it?
we don’t have the mobility or the cds to avoid anyone who really wants us dead. its why the buff to DS in S1 was so important, we dont have the cds or mobility of other classes can can only rely on being hard to kill livelords, and now we don’t even have that.
literally nobody should able to go 1v1 and facetank a dk, that was our tradeoff for no mobility remember? what happened to it?
1v1 isn’t even part of the endgame, and neither are casual arenas. Death strike is excellent in PVE, and that is all that matters.
We have 2 mobility cooldowns + chains of ice, not sure how someone can keep up if you have 100% chains uptime
I don think you will only be healing for the minimum after the first heal, the next two globals will also be healing for the damage from the first TV. It is a sliding 5 second window. If you sit there and wait for 250k damage and press DS once then wait until 5 seconds after the last TV hit, then yes, it will be the min. But you could get 75k back to back to back. Which is 225k.
As for mobility, rets have none. Chains of ice is a 70% slow.

the nerf to deathstrike was PVP only, so if you PVE only, this isn’t really something you need to worry about.
in pvp 1v1 does matter a lot, dks are often used as node guards, unholy in particular is good for countering sapcaps due to having a pet.
because you are thinking in the nice clean world of theory, where you can easily counter every move because you have the time and the ability to set a scene. actual pvp is dirty, situationally relevant, and theory is very much countered by the fact that your opponent is thinking and not an NPC script event.
Maybe to you, but PvP is all that matters to me. And in case you forgot, it was nerfed in PvP…
It is not as good as it was, but it certainly is not trash.
And for the OP: You are seriously stupid to think using the skill at 59 is anything comparable to when you’re maxed with procs out the as s and buffs from 10 different directions
pvp is a side thing done for fun when your raid is done for the night, as shown by the game being based around raiding
im pretty sure the damage heal is consumed by the first heal, the next heal will be a base heal.
they have just slightly more than us, which is just slightly enough.
