So how about that DRIVE system?

With the final patch of TWW coming out soon, and then were moving onto Midnight, are we leaving behind the D.R.I.V.E system for good? I haven’t found any info about it moving on with us like Dragonriding.

It’d be awesome if they could. Even if its just the G-99 or maybe all mechanical mounts.

From I’ve heard, it was a nightmare to code/test so it’s very unlikely.

That amount of coding across the entire game sounds like a nightmare. Shame, but I can see why not.

lmao.

It can be fun, but it can also be frustrating. I’d love to see a zone where it can be used properly, without all the buildings and fences in the way like in Undermine.

I really didn’t like drive in undermine, but it would be a blast in battlegrounds.

I hope we leave it behind. I really did not like the system and barely used it when I was there anyways. Might work better in a more wide-open area but Undermine was not it.

There was a raceway in the Shimmering Flats where it was just a wide open flat expanse but it’s underwater now.

I just wish could get a normal version of the mount, tbh in my opinion the swift Goblin mount SHOULD have been one of the cars which were in the goblin starting zone.

Imstead they got a goofy lookin tricycle motorbike thing.

Yes. They said it was designed for Undermine only. Which makes me happy, because I hated it.

But…

I still think they should add a racing event like the Kalimdor Cup for those who like DRIVE.

Makes me a lil sad. I don’t like flying too much, only use it cause of how easy it is. But I’d really like to just chill sometimes and drive around Azeroth to take in the scenery.

I know I could do it on the ground mounts now, but thats just as boring as flying.

Yeah I understand the RP aspect of putting it in Undermine but for such a small zone it created more problems than it would have in a more open space.

It didn’t even have to be that open…just not quite so congested. For a system that allows for such fast bursts of speed I can’t believe they didn’t make the zone more synergistic with it. If they really wanted to keep the zone as it is they could have removed some collision detection with some of the obstacles/doodads when you are in the vehicle so it’s not quite so frustrating to navigate.

i really dislike this personally…and actively avoid the zone.
would prefer flying any day.

I hate it and will be glad to see the end of it, having said that, I’m not against other people having it if they want it.

Had it been released in a useable form where it was just a faster ground mount that could be customized, it would likely have been a great success. Of course the devs went overboard, made it too fast to have any reasonable control over it, and ruined what could have been a cool feature.

WoW devs’ inability to control themselves and taking things too far has ruined a lot of potentially good features over the years. I doubt they’ll ever learn.

I will give them credit for trying something new, but DRIVE doesn’t have nearly the same juice that Dragonflying has unfortunately. Probably because dynamic mounts are more annoying on ground when there’s a million and one different obstacles to get stuck on.

Also REALLY doesn’t help that they wanted to showcase it in the raid but you had to drive like a grandma to avoid facepulling stuff or getting run over, both of which are basically instant death.

This would be a fun thing to add to the Cavern of Time.

But, back to the point at hand, it was always unlikely that this system would be applied to ground mounts in general. D.R.I.V.E. isn’t a mount, it’s more like the vehicle code you see in other places in the game. The big tell is how it boots you out when you talk to an NPC. I’d drive up to the race quest-giver, get bounced out of my ride, then get put back in at the start line.

So I don’t think that making it generally usable was ever the plan.

Add one to the pile.

There wasn’t enough room to have fun speeding around and drifting without running into stuff. Good idea, poor implementation.

Hated it, good riddance.

I wish it had been more crazy taxi/road rage where you phased into a fully destructible environment and your objective was to pick up NPCs or objects for delivery

Grab Thrall. He needs to get to the casino. On the way, take out 15 light posts

I think good idea is a stretch… that said I never really got why there was so much interest in player movement in the world. Most wow players play wow as a lobby game.
