I only have one horde of max level, so I went Saurfang. Otherwise, I probably would have tried both just to see both sides of the story.

I wish I had the option to side with neither. Saurfang is an idiot crybaby and Sylvanas has killed too many Tauren.
better yet we should get a Forsaken only faction, cmon we deserve it! we need some San’layn (imagine a dark ranger San’layn), undead humans like Nathanos and maybe a Frankenstein race made by the forsaken
Sylvanas! I wanna say I did that on every character but in reality I only did the campaign on this one… But in heart all my toons stand by this choice.

Why fragment a community that is already diminishing?

The community is diminishing not because of factions but because of the state the game is in. No bullsh!t BfA sucks it’s boring, stale and pales in comparison to other great expansions, Blizzard needs to take big risks like this to improve and make the game more attractive, the story needs to improve they need to introduce more characters instead of focusing on very few ones to cater to some certain “audience”.

Everyone disagrees on why the game is worse now. For instance, everything you said is about the storyline. Meanwhile, I’m pretty sure no one in the raiding community cares about the storyline - they play regardless of how good or bad the plot is. Hell, a lot of people don’t even read the quests.
However, what we can see is that in both the PvP ladder and the WoW Progress page, the majority of players are all amassed in one faction (Horde). Why?
Racials are half the story. The other half is that instead of having to constantly faction and/or server transfer to play with people(or maintaining an alt, which sucks today)…you could all just be in the same faction in the first place.
Once people came to that realization, the faction split was doomed.
