You all have yourselves to blame when you were all wrong in thinking legion was good somehow
It was the start of this trash and will always be the worse xpac to ever exist due to it breaking player psychology and shifting blizzard in the worst direction
I think people are underestimating the impact of the epidemic on game development. Blizz was struggling to get Shadowlands out at all. I’m guessing they had to cut a lot of things just to get it into playable form on time.
No, I’m not a shill. The company I work for (completely unrelated) has been thrown into chaos this past year, and so has every other business and organization I know of.
I agree with you, but Blizzard never really changes stuff around unless it’s a necessity, they know that unless it’s so boring and unrewarding that it can’t in no way, shape or form keep the players’ interest, we will keep paying, Blizzard has a really loyal fanbase. Legion though? WoD was so bad that they had to shake WoW’s gameplay loop quite a bit, while still maintaining the core gameplay this led Legion to be a major hit.
A lot of people are forgetting the key component here: The Activision takeover. More and more, Activision management has taken over the way Blizzard develops games. Remember when Blizzard’s release dates were always “SOON™”? Well, thanks to Activision, we now have a release date or release window for all Blizzard games, which means the quality control the development once had is now gone, same with the main people that made Warcraft into the powerhouse it once was are now gone from the company doing other things.
The truth is that we lost Blizzard a long time ago, but no one is willing to admit it. World of Warcraft has gone from a game that was designed to keep players wanting to play, to customers requiring to subscribe for months on end to get little reward. Its no longer a game, it’s a job.
Isn’t that the goal? People got mad about proffesions having long quest lines, having a dozen hoops to do, and over all just praying all the stars line up for TF with socket. Now we just have Torghast, pvp, and instances.
THing is WoD was only supposed to be originally a 1 year expansion . Blizz wanted to start doing new ones every year but were unable to. The lack of content from WoD wasn’t the reason Blizz started making these current types of systems. It was these systems that (mainly the Legion ones at the time) were most likely being developed by the time WoD launched that caused the lack of content. Blizz has admitted that they are usually working on 1 or 2 expansions ahead.
I really enjoyed Legion, I loved the weapons.
I hated BFA, corruption and vision were so bad.
I’m enjoying SL so far, well everything but the Maw, it’s horrible.
They didn’t add that? One of the few things I was happy about was the removal of the quests for gathering. I hated those but I think they wanted to have those but cut corners.
Shadowlands definately had the shortest Honeymoon Period of any of the Post-Mists expansions for me.
BFA, For all it’s Faults, at least managed to keep me playing with clear goals in mind. with Shadowlands it just felt like a hand being put on my head keeping me out of reach.
The whole “Good expac, Bad expac” cycle was more or less a fluke. Cata was the one “bad” expac of the Pre-WoD ones, where as Legion is the only “good” one of the post-WoD ones.
The problem with the borrowed power this expansion is that some of it feels really really awesome and the rest feels like punishment for choosing it.
They knew how imbalanced it was upon release. I wish they would have taken more time to step back and look at all of the abilities for each covenant/class up close.
As it stands it feels like they slapped the covenants they believed fit best for each class and spec combination and called it a day.
Blizzard delayed SL from it’s original date because it wasn’t ready just as they would for any of their games. D4 still doesn’t have a release date. Also old Blizz did put out release times, they didn’t just randomly drop it.
Now you might say but SL is unfinished! >:( Remember vanilla release? Remember zones being completely barren, place holder gear from raid sets? Now we brag about place holder mounts from vanilla like that’s a good thing. You recall dance studio cut, Naxx being reused to make up Wrath’s first tier, canceled flight combat, entire zones being scraped?
It’s easy to look back and see the good but if you spend more than a few minutes thinking about running across the Barrens by foot for half an hour you will remember the actual quality Blizz has always done.
Totally agree, the Legion borrowed power thing was fun since there was a really good story aspect to it, it used some of the best weapons from WoW’s past, and really felt like the weapon grew in power alongside you.
BFA was just one item that grew in power to be taken over by another item that you needed to progress in the raids. They both felt like they weren’t tied into anything that made it feel unique to your character, but just something to pass the time grinding between content patches.
Deliver me from the madness of constantly grinding for gear that doesn’t drop, for a constant grind for gear that does drop with limitless stat combinations and interesting combat ablities.
You see, that’s where you made your first mistake, Legion was also garbage so the trend doesn’t work, especially considering Vanilla, TBC, and WoLK were all good, Cataclysm was Ok, MoP was good.
Everything since has been bad and SL is better but not great.
Not sure what you expect from the company other than something that is not WoW. Perhaps you need to play other games. If you think this expansion is mindless systems farming and BfA wasn’t then honestly I don’t know ehat to tell you.
I’d say more that it was “novel”. It was never really that good, unless you played only a single spec of your character and didn’t worry about the ridiculous restrictions the artifact power imposed, not to mention legendaries and the fact you were screwed for playing multiple specs, but also you could be screwed playing the same spec if RNG gave you a legendary that just didn’t improve your classes role. (LOL bursting shot range)
