True. I’ve often wondered if being melee and tied to energy is what has allowed feral and assassin to be left alone. If so, it stinks that Blizz only wants to allow melee dot classes. Ranged dots classes, especially with built in self healing are my favorite. So shadow and aff are it for me.
Imagine them giving fire mage stronger DoTs than DoT spec classes. Soon…
Speaking of which wishful thinking I had my Living Bomb WotLK style back that actually did damage and contributed to Hot Streak.
So?
Fire has been horrible for like 3 expansions.
It’s okay. I still school fire mages on 2 target fights like Huntmaster Altimor.
Nyalotha would like a word with you
Clueless statement.
Fire mages are top 3 dps specs in raids on 7.0, 7.2, 8.2,8.3 and now 9.0.
The rich get richer? WoW is capitalist.
Baldmongold will never let that happen. He’s far too vocal, and his opinion is echo chambered by far too many people.
I just want to bump this one more time. This is the last day the change can be reverted, and it should be. This change is an oversight. I know Blizzard doesn’t read these forums, but this really shouldn’t go through.
Apart from us just not needing a buff, it’s clear reading the questions in the Mage Discord that Disciplinary Command is confusing because the current design is simply unintuitive. I understand how it works and what procs it, but the questions in the Discord have been constant since the realization that it’s now our BiS.
Is it a bug that the Arcane portion procs off of passive Arcane effects? My trinket isn’t a spell. My conduit isn’t a spell. I don’t “cast” RoP when I Combust, it gets placed under me. However, all of those things count and it’s probably a bug that they count.
Yep, and this is Blizzards way of saying Stuff IT!
Thats why I am out! No more of my $$$$$$$$$ for this crapola fest
A lot of people are looking at numbers now but not in the future. Fire mage is one of the overperforming classes for now, but they will not be in the future. Secondary stat scaling are horrible for fire mages. Haste is bad after 22-24%, crit is useless during combustion and even outside of it because we have a 15% stacking crit chance with fireball and especially if we switch out of the crit legendary, mastery is useless except in aoe, this leaves vers their best secondary stat after the haste threshold.
Another thing blizzard looks at is the actual raw performance of the class in raid. Fire mage is one of the classes that severally gets punished when their combustion is interrupted through boss mechanics which will happen very frequently. And so they need things to help fire mages make up for that by giving them one of the top dps slot if they can pull combustion off smoothly.
But with how poorly they scale compare to other classes, this “buff” is only a very temporary solution before they drop to the bottom of the dps chart in single target but at least this shows Blizzard is aware of what’s going to happen to this spec and will probably make bigger changes in future patch especially with how many people is playing this spec now unlike past expansion where they just ignored it because 3 people played the spec.
TL:DR: i play a fire mage, we are fine. we could use a buff tho
Yeah, I got tired of people expecting SL release damage out of MM hunters still. People see MM and expect them to be at the top of every chart in any gameplay even though they’ve been getting gutted left and right. MM is strong, yeah, but it’s not the S-class top of the food chain spec it was a couple of months ago.
Maybe I don’t know how to play other specs or maybe I’m just good at fire, a spec I’m unfamiliar with, but my fire mage has had a stark advantage from the get go. Easy to get in keys. Easy to pump big numbers with. AoE by design carries itself as long as you’re pressing any button that cause AoE damage. Ilevel means very little compared to your stat prioritization in the long run compared to other classes.
I’m convinced that mage is the apex class by design. It’s perfect. Unfortunately, every other class has it’s short falls that you just don’t find in a fire mage. Even convoke doesn’t replace the ridiculous damage a fire can pump and dump in between kiting people silly.
I feel like it is by definition, class bias. What developer would ever buff a top performing spec when there are other specs that need help?
Maybe they have people that focus entirely on legendary power performance and saw that this specific legendary was not being used and buffed it without considering the consequences.
Regardless, I don’t want to see this change go through. The legendary is mediocre for the other mage specs and needs to be changed so that it’s more fitting for a non-spec-specific mage legendary. Either that or make it biased for arcane mages to make up for temporal warp being usable by all mage specs.
They nerfed sub rogue into the ground for the rest of BFA because of 1 boss. You get no sympathy from me
Data + Players: Fire mages are overperforming, specially in M+, maybe tone them down a bit, shift the meta a little, help underperforming specs
Blizzard: What? Buff them? Got it. I told you guys we are listening to your feedbacks
Buffs fire mages
I’ve been nice up until now. But your insistence on ignoring all the other more probable reasons for this indirect buff suggests that you’re just a troll.
Also, here is your data that supports (doesn’t) nerfing fire. I knew this was all about nerfing fire mages from the start.

Out of all the bosses in the current raid at mythic difficuly, only Sun King’s Salvation has Fire mages being the clear winner. It’s probably because of burst AOE. I was also very generous with this. There are quite a few instances where other specs are performing just as well as fire. Furthermore, there are some very consistent specs that are performing exceptionally well on multiple bosses.
So, please, stop trying to gaslight people into thinking Fire Mages are overperforming in general. They’re not. They’re right where they need to be in raid. The only nerf worth considering is to AOE which has already been discussed.
Also, the logs I linked show that Fire mages scale linearly. So please stop saying fire mages scale different than other classes with stats.
And then tally all that data up and you have fire mages top 3 performing specs
h ttps://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/statistics/26#dataset=90
Awesome right?
I mean, in M+ we don’t have argue anything, fire mages are overperforming in that regard by a little too much. Too much in combination of utility, survivability and of course, damage.
In raids, sure some fights they don’t perform well but in most fights they do but guess what, so does every single spec. But sure, cherry-pick all you want, doesn’t retract from the fact that numbers speak for themselves but for some reason, you think mages needed the buff, but ok.
I guess being top 3 wasn’t enough. Might as well buff them!
And in term nerf Mr #5 and Mr #7 in those logs cause clearly #3 was the one that needed the buff not Mr #20.
