What could they do to DH’s to make them more skillful? Interesting to play? Maybe even fun still?
Nerf DH?

Delete DH.
seperate dodge, cc, burst, and sustained from a single button…to start
Losing blade dance dodge is a huge step in a weeks time. I think they’ll be fine in shadow lands (to play against), losing corruption / essences helps too.
remove mana burn
remove leech
make their self healing an active ability like death strike
build up to meta and have it be more impactful with far less uptime
momentum being meaningful means you have to use your mobility for damage which would force them to think about when they use felrush and how they use it
(bonus if the MS talent is an extremely short duration doubling down on impactful felrush useage)
Kinda like what Demo Meta used to be?
i hate blizzard so much
They need a more complex rotation. And demonic should be scrapped and self-healing shouldn’t be dependent on a talent choice.
Momentum is a more interesting play style but, it takes a back-seat to demonic because of the self-healing.
Roses are red.
Shaman are blue.
They say it don’t be like that.
But it really do.
For 1 all their brainless immunities on blade dance and meta leap need to go. 2 would be increasing the CD on blur by probably 30 seconds and they would probably have some symbolance of balance then.
Deleting dh would be a good start.
Remove mana rift is at the top of the list for DH changes in PvP. Anytime the meta slows just a small bit DHs instantly show up everywhere because of this ability.
Make Disrupt their Interupt CD require melee range. They’re the only melee only class outside of DK that has a ranged interupt. DKs get a ranged interupt because they’re notoriously slow to move anywhere. DHs alongside WWs have the best mobility spells in the game.
Make blur remove the dodge chance increase and lower the Damage Reduction to 25%, if they spec auto-blur its a 50% DR.
Remove outside of meta blade dance dodge. I’m totally fine with during Meta them having a dodge attached to it but making them substantially weaker in melee vs melee match ups outside of meta.
Rotationally there’s not much I would change. Havoc the entire expansion has been a little bit more of an interactive builder spender spec as opposed to balance druid, arms warrior, or Dwarlock. Moving some damage away from blade dance and into the builder could be a good move just to reward uptime a little more.
I think taking Netherwalk and instead of it being a damage immunity and movement speed bonus it could be more like the Gladiator’s Breach Trinket or Shadowy Duel. Like they disappear into the Nether and then reappear and during that time window they aren’t targetable by allies or enemies. I think that makes the ability substantially more interesting than current Netherwalk where its just a lower cd Iceblock with massive movement speed.
Leech healing should be drastically toned down. I’d be perfectly fine with the soul shard fragments being made baseline and in theory if all shards were picked up they did the same amount of healing as Soul Leech currently does.
All things I thought of off the top of my head.
Pretty sure this board wouldn’t be happy unless they were reduced to an auto attacker with an orange energy bar and then they’d start complaining about their class appearance customizations.
Personally I think Demon Hunters need more abilities that force decisions, like having a spender that competes with Blade dance but has a different effect so you don’t just use Blade Dance off cooldown.
Their lack of complexity is kind of obvious.
Don’t they need those? If they didn’t, wouldn’t they be an incredibly weak rogue with no stealth or vanish?
no they would just be a pre bfa frost dk
insane on demand single target damage that does nearly full damage aoe
unique utility in darkness, reverse magic, stealth detection
but going back to the question
what would make them ‘skillful’ not balanced
and the answer would be demanding thought from their damage and utility
The way it works now is brainless they accidentally dodge crucial things. Its thoughtless press this every 4 seconds dodge something. It needs to be more complicated or have an internal CD so its atleast more skill related.
I think a 3 second 100% dodge on a 25 second cd would be acceptable.
3 secs seems a bit excessive but the 25 sec internal CD would be fine. I’m thinking like 1.5 sec dodge or even 1 sec like I think it is now.
The reason 3 seconds seems acceptable is because its something that has to be used proactively rather than reactively.
