So, downloading FFXIV

Basically non-existent. There exist two primary modes: Frontlines (24vs24vs24) is fun from time to time and the Feast which is basically arena. It does have seasons and you can push your personal rating, but honestly if you want to focus on PvP then FFXIV is not the game for you as the community is pretty small.

The next expansion will seemingly introduce a new type of PvP-mode but nothing is known so far (we hope for something akin to CTF). Maybe it revitalizes PvP a bit.

They don’t. If you outleveled quests that require solo-duties, they’ll scale you down to the max level possible for those duties.

No, what I’m talking about was when I played in HW, the post 50 quests gave 0 xp. Essentially a hard cap on 50 til you get to the expansion content.

It gives xp now, but not much.

Same, figured might as well give it a shot though and see what’s the huge deal is about.

I mean this isn’t a con on Wow’s end, so i don’t know why it should ever be a con on FF14’s end. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Honestly, I wouldn’t consider it a “huge deal.” It is just another MMORPG (which borrowed heavily from WoW’s design philosophies back when they redesigned the game in 2013). It’s good, but don’t get your hopes to high!

Cancelled my sub and trying it out

Most quests that take place after the x0 level of an expansion (Lv50 for ARR, Lv60 for Heavensward, etc) are programmed to not give you XP at all, regardless of what level you are. Instead they give more gil rewards.

So, if you come back later, you’ll see no XP and you might assume that you’re not getting XP because of level caps… which is false. It’s just that the quests weren’t designed to give XP.

Pretty terrible, especially since Stormblood.

It feels more or less like watered-down imitation of an actual PvP experience.

They do give XP now. Just paltry amounts of it.

I was around 54 when I moved to HW.

This.

Unfortunately, the first 50 levels give a reason for people who want to hate it to hate it.

I’m still salty my dinner date was interrupted by a linkpearl call.

-_-

Is this dinner date in game or in RL?

They’ve buffed it recently. I just did an alt like… 3-4 months ago? Something like that?

And the 1-50 was very smooth and I didn’t think it was tedious at all. They cut out like 30% of the ARR quests and they greatly buffed the XP gains to compensate and they cut a lot of the filler bits out of the story and now ARR feels a lot more like Heavensward in terms of how fast the story moves along.

I actually enjoyed my time leveling the alt. It’s not perfect, but it’s 5x better than it was.

I can tell you for a fact they don’t; I just did some of these quests 2-3 days ago on the aforementioned alt. Once you get past Ultima Weapon, and you start doing quests to unlock CT and such, these quests only reward gil. But then, my BRD is 55 and my WHM is 59 so… yeah. I’m definitely not hurting for XP.

Just the daily leveling roulette will give you more XP than you could ever need to keep up with the level requirements for MSQ. This is not to mention doing the 5/6/7, or Alliance Raid roulettes to get the Tomestones to get your 130 gear once you unlock those features, which you will definitely want to do.

I never did roulettes while leveling, and got to the 49 quest and had to actually do some other stuff for XP because I couldn’t get the next quest. You’re not hurting for xp if you do roulettes or are playing on a preferred server though.

The crystal tower series doesn’t give XP. The post 2.0 quests do. Just really paltry amounts. The CT series wasn’t mandatory until somewhat recently. They give about 4800 each. Not much worth writing home about, but it’d gotten me to about 54 before I started HW.

levelling an alt job through HW now… holy crap I’m sick of these dungeons already.

“Never did Roulettes while leveling”

IMO, you’re kinda handicapping yourself if you don’t. The XP is just so awesome, and you wouldn’t even need to do it very many times at all, like 2-3 times every now and then to be quite honest. Also, the gil rewards are ridiculously good too, I’ve taken my alt that had about 550k at Level 50 and started hitting all of the Adventurer in Need bonuses I could… and a week and some later, she’s at 820k after having spent over 200k+ on GC turn-ins, a suit of Lv51 gathering clothes, etc. The majority of that money was made with the AiN bonuses from doing the various roulettes.

As for leveling alt jobs, don’t forget about the armory bonus: make sure that one of your jobs is far past the others and you’ll get huge XP gains.

Though if you’re getting sick of HW dungeons, you could always try PotD, though I could understand if that gets old after awhile too. My main suggestion, is the same I would give about any game: doing anything over and over and over again is going to get old. While XIV tends to be more forgiving when it comes to your alternate jobs, it still isn’t healthy to just nose-to-grindwheel it all the way up, you will burn out at some point.

Don’t forget about the Beast Tribe quests too, those can be decent XP up until 60 (and then Stormblood’s tribe quests are even better xp!).

What I did, on my road to all jobs on 80, is I picked one or two of them, and I would level them in pairs, grouped by armor type so I didn’t have to carry around a million suits of armor. I’d do one for 2-3 levels, then switch and do the other for 2-3 levels that way dungeon content was a little more fresh due to the differing playstyles of the job(s) I was leveling at the time.

My first job was DPS. Very rarely is there AIN for DPS outside alliance raids, and you won’t catch me dead going into CT raids again. Ever. There’s just too much salt. Those are the only ones I have unlocked.

Got dancer to 80, working DRK and RDM now. I wanted to try healing, but tanks pull too much for my crap gear and lack of tools so I’m just like nope.

Red mage is 70, dark knight is 57. And I hate the Vault. Library though is pretty fun unless someone’s an idiot and doesn’t know how the last boss works.

I don’t know when you did CT, but it’s much better these days. If there’s any salt in there, it’s usually Phlegethon and people trying to race his second Astral Flare attack and failing, lol.

But other than that, it’s pretty chill these days.

EDIT: The other raids, the Lv60 raids are not that bad at all, I think there’s like 1-2 tricky bosses and even then, if a wipe happens, it’s usually just one and people will clear it after.

The Lv70 raids, the Ivalice Raids, are a slice harder, but even then, you might wipe once, maybe twice at most, but I’ve yet to have a duty completely fail.

The Lv80 raids, most people by the time they get up there, can handle it. Wipes are rather uncommon, at least in the first 2. I’ve not done the 3rd one yet.

Usually, if you ask politely, most tanks will slow down. Or you could use another job to gear said healer up first. Use PotD or Beast Tribes to get your healer to the next x0 level (50, 60, 70) and then buy Tomestone gear and you’ll be set. Might still wanna ask them to slow down because you’re still learning. MOST tanks will do as you ask. I’ve never seen anybody kicked because they asked the tank to slow down.

Why do you hate the Vault? Is it because of the last boss? Tell you what, if you’re on… um… Aether Datacenter, we could set something up where I could tank a few dungeons for you and you could get your healer up.

Heck if you’re on Cactuar, I have all crafters on 80 and I’m guaranteed to HQ anything that’s not Level 80 Star crafting.

I hate the Vault because i spent an hour in there the other day because my 80 SCH healer couldn’t stay alive, not stand in stuff, or heal me through rotated CDs and stuff on the second and third bosses.

I’m on Phoenix, Light DC(EU). My issues in CT raids involve Cerberus and Cloud of Darkness. People can’t follow mechanics to save themselves.

It’ll be fine. I have no intention of unlocking the SB and HW alliance raids. Or the ShB ones now that i think on it. Which means i can’t do Bozja, but I don’t care about that either. I’m having enough fun without it. I’m leveling my trust NPCs too. Got Alphenaud, Alisaie and Thancred to 75 just today this afternoon. Figure take them to 80 then repeat with the rest.

I need 440 or 460 for my next msq dungeon. I’m at 436. I can’t afford to buy 510 gear. I’ve got about 100k to my name (thanks glamour, the true endgame), and each piece is about that.

It’s fine. I’ll have it done by Endwalker.

I’m having a blast. I’m still on realm reborn and the dungeons and raids I’ve done have all been fantastic. I regret not playing this game sooner

Yea I hopped back in a few days ago…working on the MSQ in Shadowbringers and trying to finish that up before Endwalker. I’m interested in replaying the MSQ from earlier expansions because I havn’t done it before. Is there a way to do that besides starting a new character?
