So, downloading FFXIV

I like it. It rewards casual grinding.

Personally i preferred some of the ARR voices. Urianger and Merlwyb, for example. The latter also did work on Skyrim.

I’ve found a ton of elitism. Parties never talk, but the forums are horribly elitist.

The game definitely has it’s points, but other stuff it falls short on.

ARR story though is balls.

As a side note, they streamlined the ARR MSQ and jacked up exp gain a while back.

I’m almost 80 and on lvl 77 quests. And i never did roulettes.

Trying to level another job though is urg.

Hey guys,

A bit of an update: I ended up only playing FFXIV for a few days before returning to WoW lol. It’s fun and everything and there is plenty of new things to do, (I havn’t played in about a year) however, I feel like I should stick to one MMO; ultimately, WoW has lower latency (60) compared to FFXIV (120?). Also, customer service has been better with Blizzard than SE (I wont get into specifics).

A note on the class system in FFXIV: While it is awesome to be able to change your weapon and become a new class, I really like being able to play different characters in WoW. If it’s just for casual play, maybe I want to play my Vulpera warrior one day and my Tauren druid the next. The variety is nice.

That was kind of my thoughts on FF14. Now keep in mind I haven’t played in ages so I’m not going to get in the good or bad because obviously it will be dated. However I agree on the alt thing. While it’s awesome to be able to just flip to what you want I found myself getting bored with it. Not to mention some of the combos just look, well weird. I loved my Lalafell BLM/WHM but it seemed silly doing some of the more robust classes on him. So I made an alt and found myself asking why in the world would I do all of that over again when I could just do it on the main.

I ended up battling back and forth with it and finally just went back to WoW. Granted at that time WoW’s gameplay was a million times better and at that FF was just grinding dungeons mainly.

Exactly, and FFXIV actually punishes you for having alts. For those that don’t know, almost everything in this game is unlocked by story content. Therefore, if you start a new character you have to do quests to unlock it again. This isn’t a bad thing if you are doing it for the first time (I actually like content being unlocked by doing quests), but if you have to do it over and over again it gets repetitive. That is kind of the problem with WoW in that if you want to have multiple level 60’s, you have to do the same Shadowlands quests over and over again.

For WoW, I believe if you have one max level, there should be some type of system that allows you to skip or greatly speed up the leveling of your next character (level 50-60). Gone are the days when leveling up is a grand adventure (like it was in WoW: Classic). Sure, it’s fun the first time you do it, but after that most people don’t want to do it again. The majority of Shadowlands content in WoW is at endgame. So, they really need to speed up the process to get there. WoW tried this with the Threads of Fate function but it really falls flat. All it has you doing are world quests (daily quests, basically) and side quests to level up, which is really boring.

It’s not like you can’t have an alt in FFXIV. You just can’t directly mail stuff to it without an accomplice.

I didn’t say you can’t have an alt in FFXIV. I said the game punishes you for doing so. It is easier to just do everything on one character, and that is counter-productive to someone who likes playing multiple characters.

It doesnt punish you any less than wow punishes you. In wow you need to do content on your alts to get them to max level. The only “punishment” is that you have to do the story and unlock the world again. Which if you have an alt thats what it means to have an alt. :man_shrugging:

It is easier to do things on one character though I agree with you there because then you dont have to regrind the entire story. However there are benefits to making alts like a larger glam closet, a new character to play that looks different, more weekly loot as well.

For example, the dungeons in FFXIV arn’t unlocked until you complete a quest or series of quests. In WoW you can just hop right into dungeons and even raids.

You can’t mail gold or items to alts. You have to trade it to a friend and then have them trade it back to your alt.

You have to spend more money to play with more than one character (not much) and only 8 characters are allowed per server compared to WoW, which allows…30?

The crafting system is designed to use a myriad of ingredients from multiple DoH (professions), therefore, it is beneficial to have all your DoH on one character to avoid scrounging up random ingredients from multiple different characters.

P.S. Mounts and gear are not account wide, except for some store mounts.

Everything you said is correct but lets talk about them anyways

This is what makes the game more personal and seeing a max level player more impressive in my opinion. Wow used to be like this. You needed to go through all the dungeons and content on each character to get to max level and max gear. Now its gone and is as you say as simple as hoping right in. There are so many story elements, cut scenes and things to see when you make a new character that I do not think they should remove it. Especially since there is an option to buy the unlocks to all the content but i think doing so just devalues the cinematic and interactive experience.

Obviously you can do all that stuff in one character and a large majority of players prefer that system instead of having to grind 20+ different characters through the game to play the same content. But if you see a player with multiple alts that went through the story its pretty impressive. In wow its just another toon.

This is annoying but also offset by the guild company chest and friends. In general i do not find this too bothersome due to the guild chest.

WoW needs 30 because its only one class per toon. When you consider that you can have every class and profession per character in ffxiv you can argue that in wow numbers you have about 18 jobs (not including the crafters for this) x 8 slots = 144 wow character classes.

I agree its beneficial to have them all on one character but its not an obligation. I think this just goes into the fact that one character can truly be the legendary omnicrafter and omniclass hero of the light that can do it all. I dont see an issue with it and like it very much

You make some good points, albeit not totally relevant to the discussion. I agree that it makes the game more personal, however, this doesn’t detract from my argument about FFXIV being alt-unfriendly.

I was unaware of the guild chest. Is that basically like the guild bank in WoW? In WoW you have to have special permissions to remove things from the guild vault.

This only strengthens my point. The only way you are going to achieve that number of classes is if you are running multiple classes per character.

It’s weird, this is the first time I have seen people actually complain about “alts”. You actually get a discounted sub if you choose the one character per server option there.

I think what it really is, is a WoW culture vs ffxiv culture thing.

You can do all professions and jobs on one toon, you can alter appearance and race. It boggles my mind that anyone even has enough spare time to be able to spend that much time in front of a computer.

It’s not even a culture thing, it’s the literal design of the game to do everything on one character, which is completely fine. All I’m saying is that that makes WoW more friendly when it comes to making alts than FFXIV.

And yes, you can alter your appearence and race ( I was wondering when that would come up) but it costs $10 every time you do so.

Is this in regards to having multiple classes on one character or having alts in FFXIV?

With wow, it’s all 50 account characters can be on the same server. You’re limited to 50 per account here.

FFXIV is 8 per server but I think it’s up to 5 servers you can cap on. I couldn’t imagine doing that, I’m having trouble with 1 character lol. Too much stuff to buy, no freaking gil.

Oh no, it’s definitely a slog from 30 through the end of ARR, but ARR sets up so many things down the line that it’s worth doing it just to see how that pays off.

After watching Bellular’s videos, I (a long time FFXIV player) picked an alt up for the earlier level experience.

I had gotten to Level 50 and right after Ultima Weapon, and I kinda stopped when I realized that if I really wanted to go any further I’d want to level all of my crafts because I just like being a DIY person.

So I picked this character back up and I’ve really been enjoying just chilling out and leveling my crafts! Then, once I do that, it’s time for my Au Ra Lowbie to finally step into Ishgard for the first time, I’ve been wanting to replay Heavensward because it was such an amazing epic story.

I’m rather stoked about it!

How is the PVP in FF? I’ve been playing the New World alpha, but have been thinking about trying FF.

I heard they have something called, “New Game +”, which allows you to go back and replay the storyline if you like. I haven’t check it out though.

I tried it once. I wasn’t very into it. I think PvP was put into FFXIV as kind of a side note just to say, “Hey, we have PvP!” From what I’ve heard, it isn’t very balanced. But then again, neither is WoW lol.

Here is a video of some FFXIV ganking:

Yeah, they do have New Game+ but I also wanted to try out a different race, but got attached to my main so I didn’t want to use a fantasia, that and… well, I actually LIKE the leveling up phase in XIV.

At least now, after the various changes to crafting, that is.
