Spectral mounts

Just a quick question. So a couple of days ago I bought the Spectral Wind Rider with a horde toon and then I swapped to an alliance toon and bought the gryphon. Yesterday a friend pointed out that he had frozen the gryphon and bought the wind rider and then it showed him that he already owned the gryphon as well without buying it already. Did they changed something, so buying one unlocks the other one? Was it a bug or something? Feel kinda bummed if I wasted the 650 tenders on the gryphon if …
